+663 As a child you were given the "starving kids in Africa" speech when you didn't eat your food, amirite?

I offered to pay postage once

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I still get that, and I am 14 that stops for most kids long before it is for me

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I ate of my neighbors trash can once. yeah, I use "when I was younger"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because apparently, giving someone food who doesn't want it makes up for all the people who need food but can't have it.

It's 10x worse when your parents are actually from a 3rd world country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True! My dad is from Sierra Leone and he uses that as leverage on me all the time. I can't even say anything 'cause he's *been* there, done that.

Yeah, I still have family over there and my Mom's always saying "Do you think your cousins would appreciate it? Do you think he likes to go to bed hungry? Quit being selfish" and I just say "Mom, am I the selfish one if you were seriously letting my cousins go hungry?"

Yeah, my grandpa came here from communist Albania.

My argument was that if I throw my food away, them the homeless people who scavenge for food in dumpsters would have something to eat. Needless to say, it didn't work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

shit I still get it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

never once said that to me... i just wasnèt picky and actually ate my food. but maybe cuz i came from a poor family then went into foster care, so you are like programmed to just eat what you get and not complain.

How does eating the food going to help the starving kids in Africa anyways? I think actually shipping food over there for them to eat would be better than me eating it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Africa.. So that argument wouldn't have worked with me.. They can hardly say "think about the starving kids in America." :) :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I say that argument to my friend when she doesn't finish her food. It works x]

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I still get that from my friends. I never eat all of my food.

In the movie 'A Christmas Story' the mom makes Randy eat his food because there is "starving people in china."

We got the holacaust argument

When I was 5, my mother told me that I should be grateful for my food, because kids all over the world would love to have a meal like this. So I said, "Why not just give it to those kids, then? I'm not gonna eat it." x3

My parents never said that to me... because my mom didn't want me to be fat. She told me this last year. >.<

by Anonymous 13 years ago

actually my mom showed me pictures of anorexic women. it worked all too well.

I got this speech. And I live and was raised in Africa. This seems strange now that I look back on it.
