If you're going to become one with nature, do a thoreau job of it, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Nice. I hope people get this.

Is "thoreau" supposed to have a double meaning? At first I thought the author botched the spelling of "thorough."
by Anonymous13 years ago
Why yes, yes it is. I can spell "thorough", don't worry.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Of course you can spell it, the person you replied to spelled it for you.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Then what's the other meaning? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

The people who clicked "no way" clearly never took A.P. History. Or they slept through it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm taking it starting next month . . . looks like I've got a head start.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I actually learned about him in English, not History
by Anonymous13 years ago
Sorry. Nothing personal intended. It's just that we spent about a month on the Transendentalists and such. My teacher called them "the first hippies". Lol, but I still like the idea of "getting back to nature".
by Anonymous13 years ago
No offense taken. It was just a comment. I just never studied the transcendentalists in any history class. Just one thing. Did you mean American History or World History or is there really an A.P. History class? I've never heard of it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
In my school we have an A.P. United States history class. We call it APUSH.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ah. Maybe that's why I never studied it. I took A.P. World History and IB History of the Americas. It's a little more broad
by Anonymous13 years ago
IB?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Oh you've probably never heard of it. International Baccalaureate is a 2 year diploma program for junior and senior year. It's like AP, but only certain schools have it. They give you tons of HW and prepare you for college thoroughly.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Or do they prepare you Thoreau-ly? ;)
by Anonymous13 years ago
HAHA! Good one.
by Anonymous13 years ago
My school has IB too, but they offer it starting in 1st grade. I wish mine was more like your school, because everybody in it 1-10 grade thinks that they're so much smarter and better than everyone else even though in those grades you do the exact same work as everyone else. 11th and 12th grade is when they actually have to work harder, but by then, most people drop out of IB.
by Anonymous13 years ago
My school only has 4 years starting in the 9th grade. Some of the kids have dropped out, but most of us stick with the program. Apparently, my school has one of the best programs in the world. We have a 98% pass rate. Even so, we don't think we're better than everyone. Obviously we do more work than the rest of the school, but you get a sense of humility when you hang around people who are just as smart as you. What part of the world are you in?
