That's because a salt doesn't necessarily have to be NaCl, it can be any compound formed from an acid and a base.

Table salt doesn't actually burn your eyes, people just assume it does because it burns on cuts. No one really wants to try it out.

Because if I do remember correctly, tears aren't actually salty. They pick up salt from your face on their way down.

The water of your tears is the same compound in your eyes, so really the tears is just your eyes leaking.
