Yeah, we should be hearing, "Press one for Cherokee, Press Two for Cahuilla, Press Three for Navajo, etc".

When people say America should be full english no matter what because people should learn the language of the land are retarded. I see their point..... but if they can't understand that we came to this country as IMMIGRANTS without as much as trying to learn the Native American language (eventually forcing them onto reservations, killing tons of them and taking their land) and are trying to force other IMMIGRANTS to learn the "language of our land" are pretty ignorant. I know it would be a lot more convenient, but no.

They voted no way because (to them) it's technically a bit hypocritical to expect immigrants to learn your language, when your ancestors immigrated, and didn't bother to learn the language of the native americans. (Though personally I think you can't really blame this generation of people for what their ancestors did hundreds of years ago)

The whole Native American language argument is just downright stupid. I'm pretty sure circumstances are different now. "America" was not trying to assimilate with the Native American culture, they simply invaded and thus gained the "right" to make their own rules. This is the first time I'm hearing we don't have an official language... but it's certainly implied that English is our national language. The sad truth is, businesses have much to gain by adding Spanish to their language banks so it's not going away anytime soon. If Mexico wants to invade the US and make us all speak Spanish... by all means, let them try. THEN, it would be comparable to the Native Americans scenario.

Illegal immigrants don't deserve special treatment. They should have to suffer waiting for their language and spending forty minutes in a queue on hold to speak to a representative, just like everybody else.

Well, I'm pretty adamant in the idea that the United States doesn't need a national language because we're on big melting pot. However, I know many people who are legal immigrants, or, rather, are in the process of becoming legal; my friend has lived here for twelve years and has yet to become a legal citizen. If you are a legal immigrant, you would be required to pay taxes, etc, and I suppose some grasp on the concept of the English language would be necessary, or at least enough to hire a guy at H&R Block.
