by Anonymous 12 years ago

exactly! I think that thought every time I see the commercial.

Less CDs, less DVDs, less games (if you're a PC gamer), less books

Well, in theory, the kids could get digital text books so they could just pack 1 computer instead of mulitple books. But since most schools don't provide an option for this, the comuter would just be added weight.

It's like they think other people bring their PC at school..

I had to read this twice, simply because when I saw 'HP' I misinterpreted it. I thought it meant Harry Potter. :p

My school gave us laptops, but they still gave us a textbook in every class, so it was just one more thing we had to carry around. They issued us special cases to protect the laptops and gave detention to the people who didn't use them, but wearing them hurt and it took all summer for the ache in my right shoulder to completely fade. The laptops were supposed to be used to take notes and to write papers, but everyone used them to dick around on the internet while the teacher lectured. Even though the average grade dropped and the only students not massaging their shoulders were the ones in detention every night, the school called it a success and signed a five-year contract with the laptop company. They DID get us new cases after enough people complained, but nothing changed except that this time it was my lower back that needed time to heal.

If you just had the laptops it would be lighter.

You would bring no paper. All of the worksheets would be digital and available on a teachers site. My school uses online textbooks a lot so there would be no class books. It would be a pretty much paperless environment. The laptop would be the only thing I bring. However, my school knows that we'll just dick around on the Internet, so they don't let us use them.

I only have to bring my laptop to class. I got my textbooks off Nook and Piratebay and I take notes on google docs and use Sticky Notes instead of post-it notes. I don't even bring pens to class. If I need one I take it from my boyfriends back pack (:
