You wonder how lick-o-rish came from licorice, amirite?

And Rusha came from Russia. I mean, the spelling is completely exact to how you should pronounce it - RUS SI A. There is absolutely no sh sound in the name.

Would it sound better if it was lice-o-rice?

Since when has this been a surprise? English is a weird language...
Coor - Corps
Sar-jent - Sergeant
It's just there. What can we do? Start pronouncing things the way they're spelled?
"Hey Co-lo-nel Connors. Pass me the k-nife."
"Sure Ser-ge-ant Jones. Get me some of that li-co-rice"

the k in knife and knight used to be pronounced, as time went on they found it easier just to keep it silent.

I read that as "lick-o-the-Irish", at which point it just sounded like a bad porno
