+177 The way your life is pretty much determined by the country you were born in sucks. Your opportunities are limited the moment you are born, you can either be absolutely no one or a celebrity regardless of your efforts, amirite?

Are you saying that if you were born in a different country, then you would be a celebrity, without doing anything differently?

I strongly disagree. You can be whoever and what ever you want. Regardless of where your from. If you were born in a poor country, you can move somewhere else to become a famous doctor and cure cancer. Don't let your past restrict you.

Actually no, where are the poor people suppose to move? How are they suppose to move? They have no money, no way to get out, and would need lots of help from people to get out. If you're born as a women in a Middle Eastern country, you cannot always become what you want either.

Sucks for them. :)

I wouldn't say that. That's only really true for lots of people in Africa, and the REALLY poor towns in middle east and India. I believe the Chinese all have potential.

My dad was born and raised in Africa. He has a PhD, is a professor of medicinal chemistry, has won teacher of the year for like the last 10 years, is vice president of research at his university, and just came back from studying cancer with Nobel Prize winning scientists in Beijing. But I agree, he had to work a hell of a lot harder than someone born in the U.S. would have.
