"Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee!"

I say ears dropping... which makes more sense... like if you drop your ear and walk away, then wherever your ear is, you'll hear what's going on, so you purposely take off your ear and stick it where you want and walk away and pretend to do something else, it makes sense, what the heck is eave? The overhang at the lower edge of a roof? How does that relate to anything, makes no sense at all!

It makes about as much sense as you voluntarily removing your ear and leaving it somewhere...

If it was detachable and I was that kind of person, I would gladly do it!
