+96 If you don't drink, people always say, "oh, that's cool..." but more often than not, whenever you hang out with them and they find out you actually DON'T drink, at all, they start acting like you're childish or prudish or whatever, start drifting away, and don't want to hang out any more, amirite?

Why don't you drink?

I can't answer for OP, but, though I'm currently underage, I don't ever plan to drink for a few reasons: A.) I don't know how much alcohol I can handle before I get absolutely smashed, and there's only one (very undesirable) way to find out. B.) I don't want to do anything to myself that will impair my judgment or cloud my thoughts.

For me, it's because I have a history of alcoholism in my family. I'd rather stay safe and just never drink than risk it.

Not arguing with reason B but for A... that's why you just start slow. Being that you've never had it, it wouldn't take much.

Those people are idiots and not worth your friendship.

I don't care if people don't drink. But if they lecture me about how drinking is bad, I'm not gonna hang out with them.

I didn't drink in high school and people still hung out with me. If they stay away from you at a party it's probably because they don't want to be a bunch of drunk asses around a person who can think clearly. It's the same with smoking weed. Having a sober person in the group just kind of ruins the high because you feel like they're having a shitty time hanging out with a bunch of stoners.

I don't think teenagers are quite as empathetic as that. I think it's more like they don't want to ruin the fun for themselves because somebody doesn't understand what they're talking about. And even if you do try to avoid the person for those reasons, it's pretty insensitive anyway. Why would you abandon your friend at a party? Where would they go?

I'm 16 and in college. People are constantly telling me I just need to get drunk and I'll see how fun it is. I keep telling them no.

16 and in college? Sounds A LOT better than 16 and pregnant.... Good for you.
