+159 Its ok for a girl to be like a guy, but it's considered "weird" for a guy to be like a girl. amirite?

Oh the joys of double standards... no

No, because I feel like when guys are really, really effeminate they just have loads of female friends. But when a girl is really masculine, other girls don't want to hang out with her because she's "weird" but guys don't want to hang out with her either.

I'm not very "girly" and I'm more "masculine" than "feminine". I have chick friends and guy friends. My ex boyfriend was very effeminate and he had a lot of both friends too. I'd say both of us had more friends of the opposite sex though. Not because of being girly or manly, but because I've noticed a lot of high school and college aged students tend to pay a lot more attention to and make an effort to talk to the opposite sex more. Consider this: guy wears a dress: weird. Girl wears a pant suit instead of a dress: preferable. Guy dances ballet: weird. Girl plays football: hot. (Not saying I personally agree with any of this) Masculinity is seen as preferable for both sexes in many societies, even by females. Ex: the girls who are proud of not being "girly" and brag their faces off about how "I'm one of those cool chicks who doesn't wear make up and I'm not like all those catty chicks who gossip about boys and make up and ponies and I hate girls cuz girls are stupid and blah blah blah"

That's cool, it's just that in my own experience I've noticed that masculine girls are seen as weirder than feminine guys - it's almost cool for guys to be a little feminine and do stereotypically feminine things. It probably just varies from place to place.

Probably. Where are you from?

London, England.

Not what I was expecting for some reason. I'm going to sit back and wait for someone else from London, England to see if this is something you've both noticed there.
