+296 If the United States is not a theocracy, or even a government based on religion, it doesn't make sense that gays and lesbians can't get married, amirite?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Half the time, it seems like we're based upon hypocricy.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It's really un-fair.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Actually, gays have exactly the same rights as the rest of us. They have the right to get married to someone of the opposite gender, just like the rest of us.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

if i could click "yeah you are" as in like the up rave thing. I would.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

They don't have the right to marry the person they love...and why the hell does anyone even get to hot and bothered about gays getting married? How will it hurt you? Stupid brainwashed religious selfish jerk.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, America may not be a theocracy, but in some places it sure seems like it is.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Actually, America was founded on Christian principles. Especially the 10 commandments.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i understand that, but america was founded a LONG time ago, and times have changed.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

The problem is that things are changing, and we need to get back to the Constitution. Regardless, we are still based on Christian values.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

The constitution has been battered to death by what some people think it means. As in the right to bear arms or freedom of speech. There are so many asterisks and footnotes appointed to it only the best lawyers and richest politicians can change it.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

the constitution needs to get modernized to fit all the new technology and new ideas, and i'm not sure how you are going to argue with that, but it's all i have to say.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

So we need to tear down what made this country and build another constitution to appease a few gay people?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(IsaidWhat?): no we need to revise the constitution to fit the views of people today. not only with religion and sexual orientaion, but also with the today's technology, such as all these sexting issues.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

But if the majority voted against gay marriage then why should it be revised? We are a democracy. I really see what you are saying but it wouldn't be as easy as said.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(IsaidWhat?): if you see what i'm saying, than you can see that i think we should not have to vote on it.. it should just be.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

But I never said I agreed with it.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(IsaidWhat?): obviously you don't know what i'm saying, because i didn't say that you agreed. :P

by Anonymous 14 years ago

No, you didn't but I put that in anyway. I don't think it should just be and if you think I don't understand you because I disagree then I am sorry.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(IsaidWhat?): if you can't open your mind, don't open your mouth.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Christian values? No. The Ten Commandments themselves, except the ones directly concerning worshipping God, were based on MORAL values.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What's unfair is that all these minorities just can't leave it alone. They're sore losers and rebellious people. We live in a majority rules country and it had ruled against it. If you keep fighting it you are rebellious and ignorant. It's never enough to have what you have but you want to take more. If you do get your way you will find something else to bitch about that you don't have and would want. It was the hard working religious people that built this country not gays. You should be thanking them you have what you have.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I agree. American gets what it wants, and the majority of America voted against it, so no go. But who knows! Since Obama ignored the majority of Americans that opposed national healthcare, he might ignore America here and let gays marry. And yes, pantherfanatic is right. America was founded on Christian principles. It's a fact, not an opinion. If gay people REALLY wanted to get married, move to Europe. Don't force yourselves on people that really don't care.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Health care went wrong way before Obama. Let's not use him as an excuse. Clinton was voted in just for the exact reason, healt care reform. 8 years and nothing happened. You have to look beyond to who really runs the country, money. Reform won't work unless there is a huge profit in it. But that is another post, Amirite?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

So here's the one flaw in your health care statement: Obama stated he was going to provide public health care prior to his election as part of his campaign. Therefore, by the majority voting for Obama, the majority also voted for health care reform. Lastly, Seperation of Church and State.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

As did Clinton and every other politician. They all lie or promise what they know they can't deliver.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

No. The country was not founded, in any sense, on Christianity. The Constitution and the Treaty of Tripoli will back me up on this. We are not a "Christian Nation", and bigots like yourself and the rest of the commenters are un-American for saying such things. I don't see how gays getting married is a bad thing if heterosexuals like myself can do it. Human rights are not left to majority opinion. If you don't like it, don't marry a gay person.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

(Reverend Red Mage): No, the nation was founded on Christian principles. Hence the "Under God," in the Pledge of Allegiance. Christianity is not forced onto the people. This is because of the Christian belief that you have the right to worship freely. It's your choice whether or not to be a Christian, but the government will always be based on Christian principles.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

That "under god" part was added in the 1900s, not when the country was founded, so your argument doesn't work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No. The country was not founded, in any sense, on Christianity. The Constitution and the Treaty of Tripoli will back me up on this. We are not a "Christian Nation", and bigots like yourself and the rest of the commenters are un-American for saying such things. (Reverend Red Mage): That didn't make sense. Are you sure you aren't bisexual? Why did you post it 3 times? LOL You may be right though maybe the country was founded on Viking law.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It was a 49% to 51% vote here in california. A lot of people who were against it, didn't vote. Lazy effers.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It was voted on twice and gay marriage lost both times. A mayor in San Fracisco still continued to marry gays but was never arrested or taken out of office for defying the law. That shows the patience this country has. It continues to go to court and if it is allowed it will show us that our vote means nothing. That minorities continue to tear down the traditional America, the reason so many came to this country in the first place.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

That "minorities continue to tear down the traditional America" ? WTF? I thought America was based on religious freedom. What about the right to pursue happiness? Apparently people trying to be happy are just tearing down traditional America?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

So if a bunch of you gay people are in one of "your" bars, you do have gay only bars, and a bunch of bikers want to come in and "pursue happiness" and decide your music isn't to their liking and want to change it and other things in there you would let them do it and be fine with it?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Thought so.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

IN THE END OF ALL OF THIS ARGUING "with liberty and justice for all" is no longer true in this country. it is wrong in every sense of the word for this country to not marry gays and lesbians. this shouldn't even need to be voted on. times have changed, and the constitution needs to catch up with the different views of today.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It's funny that gays have waited until America has a soft government to start this crap up. All it would take for you is to start your own network of ministers and call it a union instead of marriage. Then you would have your own legal bond. So quit trying to change religion because you are different.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

calling it something different from what it is, is not going to solve the problem.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

But you are different. It would be like the Lakers letting a midget play for them.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I believe calling something else would solve the problem. As "piratedicecream" said above, "seperation of the church and state". The church has it's guidelines so getting America to force religions to marry against their beliefs would be hypocritical. The church is older than America so you have to respect your elders. ;-)

by Anonymous 14 years ago

the government and the people of our country have no business telling us who we can and can't marry. it's entirely unjust. states cannot justify banning gay and lesbian couples from the concept of marriage and the protection it provides. marriage is more than a piece of paper. gay couples want to marry and be given the same benefits as everyone else, but they've been denied this right because of their sexuality and nothing is fair about that. whatever happened to America being the greatest country in the world. we supposedly have opportunities for everyone, not just financially but the opportunity to be free from judgment, but of course it's not true. every single day, millions of people are denied a right many of us take for granted. it's illegal to discriminate against gays for employment opportunities so why should it be LEGAL to refuse them marriage? that's taking away their legal rights as a citizen of our "GREAT" country. peace, love & gay marriage.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

exactly! it all comes down to the false-ness of "with liberty and justice for all" which is in our pledge of allegiance. i'm getting a bunch of people from my school who are also pro-gay rights to not say the pledge. every morning we're supposed to and our teachers make us. but i'm taking a stand! well, taking a seat. :3

by Anonymous 14 years ago

goood for you. :] somebody in this country needs to stand up for this, or in your case sit down. hahaa. <3 peace & love.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

You and Olivia_Marie are so right. You go ladies :)

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It could provide a slippery slope in the legality of marriage (e.g. having multiple wives or marrying an object could be next). Gay rights activists claim that these marriages should be allowed because it doesn't hurt anyone, but it could start a chain reaction that destroys the whole idea of marriage. If someone wants to marry his dog, why shouldn't he be able to? What if someone wants to marry their brother or parent? What if someone wants to marry their blow-up doll or have 10 wives? Unless we develop some firm definition of what a marriage is, the options are endless. If these options sound absurd, remember that all it takes is a few activist judges to use the statute to open the door. It doesn't matter if 95 percent of the population disagrees with the policy, one judge can interpret the case the way he or she wants and use the doctrine of stare decisis to impose a law on everyone. Do you remember how two judges in California recently declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstituti

by Anonymous 14 years ago

three words. well, technically two. love is love.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

So people should be able to marry a dog? You want this country to be destroyed, don't you?!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

first off, they should just simply say any american citizen should be allowed/given the right to marry any one person whether it be of the opposite sex or of the same sex. obviously nobody is going to marry their parents, dogs, or siblings....unless you live in like West Virginia where weird shit like that happens... i mean come on, think logically here. peace & love.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

All it takes is a couple of activist judges to make that crap legal. 100 years ago nobody thought that gay marriages was gonna happen. Maybe YOU should think logically!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

your like what 12? what exactly do you know about gay marriage? do you know someone who's gay? have you ever talked to a gay person? are you gay yourself? judging by your recent comments, i would say....no to all three questions. i think before you go and judge gays, maybe you should stop and think about this, what if that was you...what if you were gay and found a life partner who you wanted to marry....wouldn't you want the right to marry them? this debate isn't about what's right and what's wrong based on our own beliefs...this is about what our rights are as US citizens, what's fair, and it's also based on equality. in some states, gay marriage is legal...and the last time i checked, the world didn't end and sky didn't fall because of it. take a good look around kid..this is the 21st century, and if Obama can't change things by himself then it's time for society to take matters into our own hands.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Shut up you schmuck. I am not 12, and my age has nothing to do with the validity of my political beliefs. Because I am not gay I am not allowed to decide whether or not I want our marriages to be made a joke? You are a worthless human being. On top of that, everywhere votes are taken, the American people do not want gay marriages to be legal.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

your age actual does have a little something to do with it. i don't think you are able to vote...i don't think your 18 just yet. so therefore, your opinion does not matter. just because your too afraid to admit it, you know im right so you just automatically jump to trying to offend me.. hey kid, its not working.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

To say that my opinion does not matter because I am not 18 shows a large amount of ignorance. I'm voting in the next presidential. So by your logic, you must be a lesbian, right?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

no, even though it is none of your business i am not a lesbian. i just don't understand how someone like you could just start bashing other people just because of their sexuality.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i think he likes you he keeps fightin wit you

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Good one?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

is this likewoahboy? cause if it is you, please just stop following me around. its creepy. i had enough of you yesterday.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

maybe it is and maybe it isnt im jus sayin its been said people who fight non stop usually are attracted to each other so again i think he likes you cause he keeps fightin wit you

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Who's bashing? I don't care if you're gay, I just don't think that gays should be able to get married. Marriages are for a man and a woman. "do you know someone who's gay? have you ever talked to a gay person? are you gay yourself?" Based on your logic, you have to be gay in order to make a decision on this topic. Thus, your opinion is worthless, right?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

everyone is entitled to their own opinion. i for one do not think the government or a book should tell us who we can and can't marry. how about we just agree to disagree because we both know were going to get nowhere with this ongoing argument. no im not gay for the second time today. my cousin happens to be gay, i have a best friend who is gay, and i know for a fact that they both want to be able to marry whoever they want without any problems. is that honestly too much to ask?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

A. BURN. B: check out my most recent post, it kind of goes hand in hand with this one. :D

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Dude...a few hundred years ago black people were slaves. But the civil rights movement gave them equal rights. Why are you so opposed to change? It's a good thing. You are so illogical. Maybe people didn't see this coming 100 years ago...but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea. Times have changed, and they're a lot better now than they were but they're still by no means perfect.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude stop using the "Marry my dog" example. A person and a person, are not the same as a person and an animal. OR, a person and multiple people for that matter. Also the whole "Let's keep marriage sacred" argument doesn't really work. If you want to talk gay marriage you need to keep religion out because that brings in a whole other debate. Marriage is a legal process which bonds two people. If it was so sacred why can people get married in a city hall instead of a Church? I'm not saying you're wrong for believing what you do. I can believe what I want and you can believe what you want. There would have to be MANY steps to make marriage legal for all, but I do think it's possible. But you can't just automatically say the most ridiculous statement and believe it's a legitimate fact to base an idea around. It won't help you win a debate which is why you seem to back yourself into a corner and then just insult the other person. Calling dancingirl17 a lesbian

by Anonymous 14 years ago

makes you look rude and ignorant which does not help your case. Just saying, if you want to properly say your beliefs, leave the insults out. It's not helping anyone.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

check out my most recent post, it kind of goes hand in hand with this one.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Gay people are PEOPLE, not dogs. How can you compare a human marrying a human to a human marrying a dog? You are a horrible person, and you defy all logic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago
