+450 You read the "[Something] Xing" signs as "exing" instead of "crossing", amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Usually, but Xing is a different case for me. I read it as Shing... ^^;;;

Okay. So I came onto this post because I wanted to leave this exact same comment, but I saw that I already did... like... a year and a half ago.. Weird.

I thought I was the only one who did that

For a while when I was younger, I never knew it actually stood for "crossing," I read it as "(animal) exing" and thought "xing" was a just a fancy adult word for it.

The other day I was xing the street with an animal and I saw a car and ran very fast.

I read it as Zing

I didn't realize it meant crossing till 9th grade when someone called cross country xc and I was like wahhh?! Then they explained the x means cross.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why does X stand for both chris and cross? Ex: X-Mas and Xing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm just throwing this out there, but when something is "chris crossed" it's making an X right? Maybe there's a correlation?

X-tina = Christina We don't say Jesus X

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's the first thought thought that came to my mind when I saw the words cris and cross together. But I looked it up and X is the first letter in the Greek word for Christ and a cross is the symbol of Jesus, so that's why it's used for Christmas. And since X is a cross it's also used for crossing signs. So I was on to something. :p

My ex boyfriend was once very confused as to why a sign would say, "Caution: children are exciting." ...yeah, well to his credit at least he was quite a looker.

I read it as K-sing.
