+129 I dont speak spanish and dont plan to either. You came to my country, you speak MY language! amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't speak spanish either . . . but I'm not about to learn Thai before I go to Thailand or Italian just so I can go to Rome . . . but, if I was gonna move there, that's another story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same but I'm pretty sure that's what he was saying, if you move somewhere, you might wanna pick up the language along the way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In that case, he's completely right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah but i dont think that its right, ya know? You cam to my country you speak my language. But i mean whats done is done.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Last time I checked, this was Europe's language. You came to the Native American's land, you speak their language, then. Asshole.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

pretty sure when i came here it wasn't their land anymore, so then your argument doesn't make sense...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

His argument makes complete sense. English should have never become the dominant language of this country. When they first inhabited the land, they should have learned the Native American languages. You should not be speaking English right now, but a different language based on Tyler_Taco15's logic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The settlers chose genocide instead, while I don't support that choice modern immigrants are welcome to try it if they so desire.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

are you calling us assholes for what our past ancestors did? and you think we should all learn to speak native american now? i think your argument is awful

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with you 100%

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Before you ask them to speak "your language," you should probably learn how to speak it correctly yourself. This is the problem with America. People rant about immigrants not being able to speak English when they do not bother to properly learn their native language. I know plenty of immigrants who speak English more eloquently than you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Though you can understand his words? That's all that really matters, your just being a dick.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, I did not understand all of what he said. In context, saying "what's done is done" makes no sense. What is done? And he should learn to respect his native language enough to form coherent sentences and spell a word as easy as "came" correctly. If he wants to insult people from other countries for not knowing English, he, as an American, should speak it properly. Sorry if not liking hypocrisy makes me a "dick."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"What's done is done" is an incredibly common English phrase, it's in MacBeth for Christ's sake. Any native speaker or person why has spent time in the US or other English speaking countries should be familiar. Spelling is not as important as meaning, and if he or anyone else can get their meaning across to most people proficient in the language then that is sufficient.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know the phrase. I have lived in the United States my whole life and am a native speaker. I have read Macbeth and understood it completely. In his sentence, what is he referring to? Learning the language? Maybe if he could write a sentence with proper structure, I would understand him; it seems he is incapable of doing this, though, even with the simplest of sentence structures.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't blame anyone else for your poor reading comprehension. It does you no good to understand MacBeth if you can't understand something like that comment. Perhaps you should spend a bit more time with every day people and learn how they speak. It's kind of funny that you don't understand. It's not exactly a riddle and I have no intention of explaining it to you. Context clues, look at the time stamps. You should be able to figure it out, there are only so many possibilities and the correct one is obvious.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Spend my time with everyday people? Who do you think I spend my time with? The people I spend time with are just as normal as anyone else and they can all form proper sentences. I know how "everyday" people speak. I did not say it was a riddle. I am simply saying he needs to learn how to speak English properly so that getting his point across will become easier and make more sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And again you miss the meaning of the words entirely... and validate my point at the same time. You see the words, you know what they mean, but you don't understand them. Figures of speech, idioms, turns of phrase, euphemisms, malapropisms, regional dialect and slang terms, these are things you don't seem to grasp and that's your own fault.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know figures of speech, idioms, etc. It doesn't make sense in context. If I just randomly threw in a figure of speech in my argument, it would make no sense. I am done arguing with you because you obviously do not understand the point I am trying to make and I will not waste my time reiterating my point any longer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wait did OP mention anything about spelling correctly? no. so shut the fuck up

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, he didn't. But his grammar is atrocious.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok i wont deny that, but he said nothing about immigrants needing to have proper grammar

by Anonymous 13 years ago

then it probably doesnt apply to them, stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You ignorant prick, this is the reason America is going nowhere anymore.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You move to a new country, you learn the local language. That's just how it works, you ignorant prick. You can't go through life expecting people to go out of their way to accommodate you. Certainly some time should be given to allow immigrants to gain proficiency, but they should speak the language within two to three years of moving to their new country of residence.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're the ignorant one. America is not a country, the United States is, but not America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/america A·mer·i·ca –noun 1. United States. 2. North America. 3. South America. 4. Also called the Americas. North and South America, considered together. FAIL

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Niceee ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok...sorry "North" America isn't going anywhere.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you move to a different country, you need to learn the native language! It's so stupid if you don't! If I move to a Spanish-speaking country, I'll learn Spanish. If they move here, they should learn English. Jesus, you're an idiot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Okay mabey i am and Ignorant little brat, but you may or may not understand what its like to learn a new language.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm learning a new language right now. and if i ever planned to move to another country, i'd respect their culture and their way of life by speaking that language.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

LMFAO Maybe you should learn the language before you tell others to! What a dumbass!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Prick. I know what it is like to learn a new language. The us doesn't have an official language, just a major one. It isn't YOUR language. BTW if you feel this way, then we should all just learn a Native American language, with that logic. You don't HAVE to learn Spanish. They are trying to make a better life for themselves, people like you tear them down.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English is the defacto official language in the US. While there is no official language at the Federal Level twenty-six states have laws designating English as the official language within their borders.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The U.S. doesn't have an official language? Technically that's true but you'd be fucking retarded to not say that as an American you should speak English. And NeverShoutNever sucks and is for hipster douches.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personal attacks mean you have nothing to contribute to the conversation. I just think that if you believe that you should speak what everyone else is speaking who was "originally" here, we should all be speaking native american languages. Sorry for having an opinion. And I think he actually has talent by the way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know what its like to learn a new language, but i can only image the difficulty and struggle these people have gone through just to get to America. They are thrown into our system without any support from the people of the land of opportunity. Nobody cares to try and support them in their dreams, and all they want it to better their families lives. Yet, people like you continue to rip and tear them down, not even giving them hope for the future. Hope for a better America which is why they came here in the first place.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol. How do you think all of the immigrants felt when they came to America? All immigrants from the 1800s-1900s were subjected to racial slurs, violence, etc. just because they came from Europe, or Asia, or Africa, or anywhere. They learned the language. They struggled. They worked hard. They didn't expect anything. They lived off of NOTHING. They didn't get free health care, or any special scholarships because of their ethnicity. Why do they deserve special treatment?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Phew, it's amazing that you are still alive. I've never met someone from the 1800s, how was your first hand experience as an immigrant? Do you think history text books give you justice? How about the fact that it is the freaking 21st century? How do you think the technological advances and growing intolerance are in comparison to the 1800s? Seriously, if you weren't from the 1800s you wouldn't know what it was truly like. If you aren't an immigrant struggling in a country of ignorant people then you will never truly know what it's like. Quit acting like you're speaking from experience when you have never even experienced it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's amazing how you didn't actually make any argument in that comment. Also how do you know she's not an immigrant or the child of an immigrant? She could know quite well what it's like.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Unlike most grandchildren, I enjoy listening to my grandpa's stories. He listened to his parents' stories. He told me of the hardships his family faced. He was able to give detail. My grandma also told stories. Her dad was an orphan at 10, and went long periods of time without food. He slept on the streets and looked for work. He didn't expect any handouts from the government or other people. My great grandparents all went through the Great Depression, and my grandparents lived through it as toddlers. I listen to these details. New immigrants need to quit acting like they deserve something because of their prior lives, and YOU need to quit acting like I know absolutely nothing. I've listened to not only my grandparents' stories, but my friends' grandparents' stories, and my teachers'. I didn't come up with this stuff out of thin air.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

firstly theyre not "thrown" into our system. they choose to come. and secondly you have to understand america is a dog eat dog country. if you're so concern about immigrants and everything being equally relocate to a communict country. because here in u.s. capitalism is practiced and unfortunately that means working for your own and survival of the fittest. and that means learning the language in order to be more competitive in this country in order to obtain that better future and the "american dream." its the harsh reality of it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't referring to the illegal immigrants who come to the U.S. by choice. I'm talking about all the relocated refugee's. The U.S. is the highest relocation country for other countries around the world who are in civil wars. Most the families who are relocated have tried for years to get over here, imagining how much better life could be. However, the U.S. government throws them into the system. Most the kids have not received an education at all, and are put into grades by their age. Some are put into 5th, 6th, even 7th grade before they know the English alphabet, or basic addition. I locally volunteer every week at a refugee center, so I see these struggles daily. Most the kids parents are put into low paying, cleaning jobs, commuting many hours everyday, only to be put on food stamps by the end of the month. It's a very sad situation. Is that how we want people around the world to view the U.S.? A country that no longer gives a fuck? If so, I'm leaving.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we pay effing taxes for them to live here. dumbfuck.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We should all just speak Klingon and be done with it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lolwut?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Then technically we should all be speaking Native American right now. Or does it only count when it means you don't have to do any work?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

96% of the US population speaks English fluently. Most Native American languages are dead. We can't go back and stop the genocide of Native Americans and learn their language, but that's hardly the issue at hand is it? I also don't want to learn Spanish, I study Portuguese.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

... Then don't learn Spanish.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and your username is "tyler taco"... you realize what language that's from, right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes I do -.- I know its weird and stupid but i couldn't of anything else, and when i was posting this my username was in the back of my mind. So its whatever right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i wasn't asking for an explanation.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well don't have to be all offended >.>

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's funny how he can hardly speak "his" language properly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i think that they should just know the basics, like hello, goodbye and simple stuff like that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

/YYA's multiple times....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not your country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If I planned to move to Mexico, I'd learn Spanish [In fact, I'm learning it now.] If I planned to move to Italy, I'd learn Italian. If they don't want to learn the ENTIRE language, they should at least learn the most common phrases and how to respond. Or study some rules so they can guess at what something is with context clues. If I, a 15 yr old girl, can guess at some phrases in Spanish, they can reciprocate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why just spanish? There's immigrants that come into the u.s to make a better life for themselves from different countries , not just latin american countries. (India,Asia,Etc. )

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US, largely due to immigrants from Mexico and various countries to the south of US borders. A significant portion of the 4% of US population who don't speak English speak Spanish.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ITS A GENERAL STATEMENT PEOPLE. IT DOESNT MEAN JUST SPANICH. IMMIGRANTS FROM ALL OVER SHOULD ATLEAST TRY TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE IN ORDER TO EXCEL IN THIS COUNTRY

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://xkcd.com/84/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

arrogance

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They don't have to learn your language, but they better not expect you to learn theirs either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. even though it is sort of mean.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow. . . no wonder other countries hate us so much, it is because of ignorant pricks like you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's just frustrating when people who don't know any english come to america and expect us to just deal with it. at least make an effort...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes! Someone understands finally! Jeez, fuck you Mexicans...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow. Really..? I think you're almost as ignorant as the OP. GTFO

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The statement you made above (by the OP) is directly demonstrating how messed up the United States is with their arrogant attitudes. Get over yourself and welcome immigrants with a genuine smile. After all, if the world was more welcoming to all people, we wouldn't have half of the problems that are going on globally.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True, we'd have an entirely different set of problems to replace them though (ones we're trying to avoid). It's a catch-22 and it sucks, just deal with it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If I were to go live in another country with a different language, I would take my damn time to learn it. I shouldn't be accomidated because I'm a lazy bum who won't even ATTEMPT to learn a language. Props to immigrants who DO try. I have NO issue with immigrants, but if you lived here your whole life and never learned a speck of English, there's a problem. I shouldn't be forced to learn Spanish or any other language in school because certian immigrants won't learn English.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But how do you know they aren't trying? I had Spanish last year but that doesn't mean onr year later I'm going to be fluent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You could be with study and total immersion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My German teacher was in an exchange program when she was in highschool (she's fairly young, so it was recent), and being in a home and school with German speakers really did help her learn VERY quickly. She had some prior knowledge of the language, but being in a place where it's nessecary to learn helped her speak fluent fast. So you're right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree for the most part, but most Spanish speakers in the U.S. are bilingual anyway. Most coming in from Mexico as well don't want to stay here either, they usually want to make some money and return later to their home. They should learn English if coming here and if they plan to stay, but if really poor, it's kind of hard to learn English before coming, and they might just have to learn it while here. You can't live in the U.S. for many years without picking up enough English to communicate every day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just because immigrants come to this country and can't speak english doesn't mean they're trying to make you speak theirs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

America does not have an official language, so no, it's not, "If you come over here you have to speak english".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English is the defacto official language in the US. While there is no official language at the Federal Level twenty-six states have laws designating English as the official language within their borders.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed. I don't the three ppl that voted your post down read it right. People can speak whatever language they damn well please. I don't see anyone bashing Asians or Europeans on here.. this is pure racism

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow America doesn't have an official language people are free to speak whatever they want it doesn't kill you, does it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

English is the defacto official language in the US. While there is no official language at the Federal Level twenty-six states have laws designating English as the official language within their borders.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oic still, it's not the op's language i'm not going to start an arguement but this dude just seems ignorant to me

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. If we went to other countries only knowing English and no one could understand us, I'm sure not everyone over there would be understanding. I understand they come over here to start a better life for themselves...but by doing that they are ruining lives of people already living here because they are taking so many jobs because they work for so cheap. How is that fair? I hate language and will not learn any other one to accommodate to anyone.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can someone please tell me when English and the United States became property of this kid? I suppose I never received the memo. There are no laws against immigrants who cannot speak English. In my opinion, every American should have to learn a second language in high school. For one, bilingual people have a better chance getting hired and being on the global market than monolingual people. The whole world doesn't revolve around English.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1. While it can be misconstrued as such his choice of words does not imply ownership. 2. There are laws restricting the use of foreign language in some places. 3. True, people should learn a second language. That doesn't mean they shouldn't know the primary language used in the nation they reside in. 4. The world does in many ways revolve around English. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and there are over 1.8 billion speakers world wide (including non-native speakers), making it potentially the most spoken language in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I did not know about the law about restricting the use of foreign languages. Care to link me to where this is stated? I never stated they should never learn the native language of a country. Lastly, I see your point about English. It is a very widely spoken language. Mandarin and Spanish have more native speakers then English, however. I'm just saying that to be completely successful in international trade and work, you just cannot simply know English.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're right, the whole world doesn't revolve around English. In America, it does. Learning a second language is great, and I agree we should be required to learn one, but that doesn't help the fact that, in America, the primary language is English. If I were to emigrate to a country, I would learn that primary language to the best of my abilities.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Talk about ignorant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

WOOOHOOOO PEACE AND LOVEEEE :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

America is made of immigrants, idiot. Unless you're 100% Native American, someone in your family came from another country that probably speaks another language. Don't be stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone needs to learn how to speak in Klingon. Then we could go anywhere and sound like badasses.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

FUCK YEAH, so badass.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm remaining neutral on this on, but: http://xkcd.com/84/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

im twelv and wut is this?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is get the fuck out before I shit in your mouth and slap you in the face with my penis!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Geez what a dick ..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Technically we don't have an "official" language its just defacto.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hope you know, there is no official language here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What if thousands of people from the US started moving to Mexico or any other region? Wouldn't you want them to learn your language? It's kinda disrespecting thier culture. The good thing about the US is its culture is influenced from all over the world. Without other languages and cultures there wouldn't be such a diverse and cultural country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Peoples should be speakin' AMURICAN if they's wantin' to be livin' hur!"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We don't have a national language for a reason, morons.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You should learn Proper English before you tell people to, dumb shit. Americans are so ignorant. It isn't "their" language, it's just what most people speak. People should be able to go to America without being yelled by motherfucking bitches like you for not speaking English.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wohhhh don't go hating on Americans because of this dumbass. Stereotyping us makes you just as bad as him.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure Blah is attempting to mimic a stereotypical American hick, not make an argument. See the quotation marks?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We don't have to speak whatever language you speak if we are from another country, because this isn't YOUR country! As citizens we have the right to speak whatever language we want just like you have the right to speak whatever you want to. For the record, I'm born and raised in America and so are my parents although my grandparents came from Cuba and we all speak english and spanish.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

See, as an Englishman, watching you all go on about 'your' language that is a simplified version of 'our' language that was slowly developed through time and blending many native languages to make a complete language much like how whiskey is made, I have to say just a few points. English is on the most popular language to learn list. English is ironically a language that preaches multiculturalism and diversity working together. If you are visiting a country you should pick up at least a few emergency phrases, if you are going to move there then you learn as you prepare and continue learning when there. This means when you get there you have a little understanding of what is going on around you but you pick up native uses for words and phrases rather then a text book language. You cannot fully live somewhere without using their language as your main language when in the country - unless with relatives etc then speak your own tongue with them. It is not rude to expect such mann...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Americans insist that tourists speak English in their country, but when they go to other places, they don't even try to talk the other language. Believe me, I know. I work in a tourist shop in Quebec, and some Americans give me a dirty look for greeting them in French. I am bilingual I do not mind the least helping them in English if you are polite about it. Americans are not God. Better start realizing it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey now. Don't try to stereotype all Americans into some sort of snobbish figure with their nose in the air. Everyone in my family is bilingual because we choose to be. To make an assumption that we think we're God is very shallow and really unappreciated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats why I said some Americans. I meant that for the last comment as well. Sorry for not being clear. Believe me, I've met some very nice Americans. I have nothing against them, just those few people that think that way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's fine, I read it wrong my bad.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like how you do things. Even though it wasn't a tourists shop, I worked at a had Stapleton for a year in Texas. I constantly had people who couldn't speak a lick of English, but if they were polite I could somewhat pick up the, mostly spainish, that they spoke. If I go to another country I will try and learn some basics of that specific language. I don't know any useful language really, Latin, that'd doing me a whole lot of good now. But in a lot of ways it helps me to tell what someone speaking an other language is saying. I don't necessarily think it's ok for anyone from any country to assume you can travel to an other country and think someone will know your language. But it should be a basic part of early teaching in school, so when the get out of high school they will know the secondary language of the area in which they live.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This reminded me of a certain line in a White Stripes song.. "White Americans, what? Nothing better to do? Why don't you kick yourself out, you're an immigrant too. Who's using who? What should we do? Well, you can't be a pimp, and a prostitute too." I don't know why, but it did.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's supposed to be "gas station" stupid auto-spelling thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i hope you know america has no official language... english is just the most spoken. good try though... :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah...I wasn't thinking at the time. Now I actually like learning spanish. :) This was like idk how long ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just to let you know. We have no set languge in America. So this is irrelevent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

YES I KNOW!...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

dude... your fcking username has spanish in it...

by Anonymous 12 years ago
