+232 Glass is amazing. It's solid and liquid at the same time, we can see through it but not all light can pass through it, and it makes mini rainbows in the sunlight, amirite?

its not amazing, its just clear.

gaaawsh just trying to see the beauty in everyday things <rolls eyes>

solid and liquid at the same time? wtf?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, it's actually a very viscous liquid (viscosity = the ability to resist flow)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not to be mean or anything, but I'm pretty darn sure that glass is solid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I.... Don't.... Care.....

Like what Corey said, glass is solid. However, it has a "plasticky" property that scientists use for the mantle under the earth's crust. It's solid, but flows, kind of like thick, warm taffy. Over thousands of years, glass will slowly form into a slightly morphed shape: thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top.

Glass is an amorphous solid, it's like a gel. If you get a piece of solid, straight glass, it will be thinner at the top and thicker at the bottom

Glass is solid or liquid -_- it's not both at the same time.

Glass isn't a liquid in any way (unless you melt it...?), that's a myth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass#Behavior_of_antique_glass http://dwb4.unl.edu/Chem/CHEM869A/CHEM869ALinks/www.ualberta.ca/~bderksen/florin.html http://www.jimloy.com/physics/glass.htm But yeah, glass is cool. :P

@1123709 (Anonymous): @1123904 (Rainbow35): read comments above. and especially to rainbow, from your own article "Glass is an amorphous solid. It exhibits an atomic structure close to that observed in the supercooled liquid phase but displays all the mechanical properties of a solid.[30][31] The notion that glass flows to an appreciable extent over extended periods of time is not supported by empirical research or theoretical analysis (see viscosity of amorphous materials)."

I read this at first as "Glee is amazing." I need to get out more...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I did too, and I hate that show

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah no.
