-422 pandas don't even serve a purpose being here on earth, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does any animal?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Except to be so damn cute

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the first time i read it i thought it said people. lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. Why should I save the Pandas? What have they ever done for me?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why should God help you? Did you do anything for him?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why indeed? I certainly never asked him to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because they are another species. Helping someone only when they do something for you is just selfish.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Preventing poachers from making a livelihood so that they can feed their families because one thinks pandas are cute sounds pretty selfish to me. Ultimately I don't see other species as inherently worth protecting. Obviously we have to keep some kind of control on ecological damage so that our world can continue to support us, but as pandas don't do anything for us I see no reason to spend time, effort and resources saving them. We allow people to fish, we allow people to farm and eat cattle, but pandas are different because... they are fluffy? there are fewer of them?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We have to stop caring about ourselves and see that we are just as equal as any other animal, and killing the species to save a small amount of humans isn't right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Morality is relative, but beyond that, we have to draw a line somewhere. Plants are alive, but even vegans eat them. Insects are alive, but very very few people would object to swatting a fly. Rodents are alive, but mouse traps and rat poison are commercially available and very popular products. Cows are alive but the majority eat them multiple times a week. Is it the fact that soon pandas may be extinct that bothers you or is it something else? If it is the former, then why is killing the last panda worse then killing the second to last panda, or the millionth to last panda?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because we eat other animals to survive, as part of the ecosystem, but making a whole species extinct is just showing how uncaring we are.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes. That's because I really don't care. And we don't need to eat animals to survive, vegetarians are usually quite healthy people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Vegetarians are most likely small and lack the protein you get from meat. Plus, I never said we need animals, I said humans do eat animals, and that's perfectly okay.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This will be my last comment. Poachers need to hunt pandas far more than we need to eat cows, so to condemn the former while doing the latter seems hypocritical to me. I do not think there is a moral imperative to keep a species alive when there is no demonstrable benefit for them existing beyond aesthetics.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This will also be my last comment. I know there is no demonstratable benefit, but does that mean we kill them off? Let them live their lives in peace. To other animals, we aren't a benefit either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Also, I forgot to say that killing the millionth to last panda isn't as bad as the last because they can still reproduce, I personally, don't like to kill bugs. Cows and rats though... They do serve a purpose, and you should know that they won't go extinct as long as we go as far as eating. We have to understand that just because we are an intelligent species does not mean we have the right to go prancing around extinguishing life forms they think don't serve a purpose. If the panda died, what would eat all that bamboo?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is a difference. Vegans eat things that have no physical feelings. And although eggs and milk were not alive, the animals producing them suffer greatly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Plants actually do have a rudimentary nervous system. They react when limbs are cut off, when they are uprooted etc. They are receive information from the world around them and respond accordingly. Of course they can't do this to the extent that animals can, but my point is that there is a spectrum to the complexity of life. Drawing a line somewhere on that spectrum and saying "Anything on the left is okay to eat, anything on the right is not" is completely arbitrary.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

why is everyone singling out pandas? there are far more useless animals

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think this comes down to what rights do we have to destroy another creature? Maybe it will begin with the panda, but if we carry on down this path we could end up destroying our own eco system. Also, what purpose does anyone serve on earth? Certainly, I hope, not to destroy.

@670540 (Uhhhhhhidk): @670486 (LewisL): @670466 (Anonymous): @670472 (Roflmao): I have nothing against pandas they're ah-door-able! But I just don't know their "niche"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sure they do. If you would've said "Pigeons have no purpose" then I would've agreed. And humans have no purpose either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like pandas.... Mosquitos can go though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People don't seem to understand... The ecosystem is extremely fragile. If you lose an animal, the entire world could die out....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's a ridiculous exaggeration. When a species dies out it certainly affects the entire ecosystem, but in the world's history there have been at least 5 occasions when over half the planet's species died out in a very short space of time. And yet we are still here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It depends on the animal, I guess. Maybe pandas aren't the most affecting of them all, but it will drasticly change the ecosystem, no matter what species. There are alot insects and animals that can kill the entire planet if they were to be lost.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No there aren't. There are many that could cause a lot of damage, but life as a whole is far more resilient and adaptive than you give it credit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

neither do you

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, it's koalas that are worthless...all they do is walk around on they're little ass legs and break their necks fallin out of trees.
