+367 I'm not religious but - The whole florida 9/11 Qur'an burning, beyond being ethnocentric, is also burning a book that contained the same roots (AKA the old testiment) and spreads Jesus's teachings (he is a major prophet in the Qur'an). It should also be noted that while our flag goes up in flames quite often in areas dominated by radical Islam , Bibles and Toras aren't, they're holy books of go... amirite?

Fav'd and voted for hompage. You are absolutely correct. Very inteligent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why thank you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Irony: Intelligent spelled wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So is homepage. I was typing on my iPod and I pressed 'add comment' before I noticed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but spelling 'homepage' wrong isn't ironic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never said it was, I was just pointing out another error.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't condone the burning of the Qu'ran, however it is incorrect to say that it spreads the teachings of Jesus Christ. In addition, it is nearly the opposite of the Old Testament. You are absolutely correct in saying that just because radicals disrespect a nation, it doesn't mean we should disrespect someone's ideology. But please, back-check first

I am soo against that, i do not think it is right because in the end we all worship the same God with just different ways and that minister should not be allowed to do that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ive said it in other posts, but the bottom line is... No matter of what faith, background, reason, burning a book is just a sign of ignorance.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HOLY BOOKS OF GO?! GO TEAM GO! >:D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It ran out of room. God*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, I'm not stupid, I'm just an idiot. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not for burning books personally, BUT he has a right to do that if it's what he believes and what his church believes. That is the principle America is built on. This story actually just shows the stupidity of America public and how we suck in anything the media says. He is a pastor of a church with less than 50 members. Who cares if they burn the Quran? It's not a big deal, but it's been blown up and it's just feeding the stereotype that all Christians are crazy people who want to shove crazy beliefs down your throat. This guy is probably only doing it because he knows people will flip shit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree that he wants the publicity, but don't you think that someone burning Qurans will have serious repercussions in other places in the world? Radical Islam terrorists don't need another reason to attack people; this will only make things worse.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

One of the big deals is that, if he did it, that video would be played all over by radical Islamics and people over there would have proof of the way the radicals are trying to say America is like. And that, in turn, would endanger the troops we still have over there. I don't care if you disagree with the war or whatnot, but there are troops over there and even though we are close to peace there will be troops there for awhile and we don't want to put them in more danger than they already are.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How can you say that he has the right to burn a religious book? What happened to freedom of religion? I'm not too informed about the details of the Bible, but I'm fairly certain that the Bible teaches tolerance of other people. And I'm pretty sure that if an Islamic person said they were going to burn the Bible because they don't agree with Christian sayings, that pastor would flip out. Threatening to burn the Quran is ignorant. People shouldn't applaud the pastor.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who said I was supporting this guy, I was just saying how this has been blown out of proportion. And I understand that the video of him burning it will fuel their anger towards Americans and the troops. But that's the goal of terrorists, to instill fear in people's life! I'm sure A LOT of thing we do in America really piss off the radical Muslims, does that mean we shouldn't do anything that might tick off irrational terrorists? I'm a Christian myself and if I heard someone was burning the Bible I would dislike it, but I believe God gives us free will and that is those people's rights to express their beliefs. A person that has real faith in their religion wouldn't care because you should hold your beliefs and convictions in your heart, acting out the Word not just praising the book itself. I hold the Bible dear because it's a gift of God and the living word of truth not just because it's a 'sacred' text.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just if you don't know, burning the Qur'an, is one of the largest sins in the Muslim faith, so that would be another we he is trying to be an asshole.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As christians, we are supposed to represent Christ and His love. When He died on the cross for our sins, He was beaten by the people who hated him. Did He say, "You are going to hell for this"? No. He said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing". Now Im not pointing fingers or casting judgemenf, Im just stating the facts. That pastor is not representing Christ in any way, shape, or form by retaliating like this. He should be more Christ-like, and forgive them, and show them Christs love. Just sayin ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree 100%

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Forgiveness is a key part of Christianity BUT Christ does not want people that follow Him to just let anything go. The purpose of Christianity is to spread the love and truth of Jesus Christ not to sit around and be like well if that's what they believe then that's fine and everyone is righteous in their own way. That is BS, we are supposed to show the world that Jesus is the ONLY way. Our job is to rebuke people when they are following the wrong path, in a loving way. Not just let people do whatever the hell they want and support them. I'm not supporting this pastor but I understand as a Christian that he is trying to take a stance on fighting for Christ in a time where most Christians sit around wanting to pretend like everyone is walking into heaven holding hands. But i don't agree with his approach.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*facepalm*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But if he does, that is going to put american troops stationed in the middle east in danger.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

too true! and that pastor is stupid because i'm sure he's mostly doing it just for the publicity of his church

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In the end that guy in going to be in deep shit. He will get killed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know. Hes got like 50 followers... i think hes like one of those hardcore religous people that think if you are not christian, then you belong in hell

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Too bad the fire chief is gonna blow his face off with a fire hose. Apparently book burning is illegal because the fumes from the ink are toxic. Thank god.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1. The Bible and the Qur'an are not fundamentally the same. The new testament of the Bible teaches that Christ died for our sins and that it is by him we gain access to Heaven. The Qu'ran only teaches Jesus as a prophet and not that he is a diety. To say that they two religions are the same is just ignorant.. That being said I do not believe in the burning that this pastor is instigating and it does not help the image of Christianity.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No they aren't the same, but what I think the same is that Jesus is mentioned in both religious books and that by him we learn many lessons and morals. So you can only imagine the love and respect we have for him[Muslims] as Christians do too. I think that's what the OP was trying to say. It doesn't make sense to burn a religious book in which both religions love and respect the same person.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

burning the qu'ran, yeah thats a good blow to the "war on terror".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Am I the only one seeing the irony behind this? The Pastor had to BUY the books, meaning his act is SUPPORTING Islam. It is one of the most insulting things to do to a Muslim so this will cause more pain for others unfortunately.... As for the whole flag buring, America, yes America burns the most US flags. So that is a void reason. I do not support extremist behaviour from any side and I do not agree with religions on going self hate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an atheist and I can say this is wrong. Have we learned NOTHING from the Holocaust?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you're an atheist, you have no basis on what to say is right or wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That comment is wrong on so many levels. The guy is still human and has moral values. I'm sure they know right from wrong. Don't try and act all superior because you think you apprantly "know better"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do know better. Atheists have no basis to say what is right or wrong because they don't believe in any higher power i.e. God or a standard law of beliefs, so they're view of right or wrong is so relative and subjective it means nothing at all really.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well that's an ignorant view of reality. Don't get me wrong, I do believe in God, I'm a Muslim, but just because an atheist doesn't believe in God today doesn't mean he/she won't tomorrow. And even if they don't ever believe, they still have morals. Not all Atheists go round killing people and stealing stuff, just because they have no religious foundation. They *do* have a standard law of belief. It's just the centre if their belief isn't a God, like it is for you or I, but rather morals and laws of the land.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they have morals and they're center of belief isn't God, then that means they are basically their own God because they decide what is right or wrong. Self-made morals are faulty because all humans are imperfect. And btw just because someone doesn't go around killing or stealing or doing outrageous crimes does not make them a good person.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's illogical. I know a fair few Atheists and none of them think of themselves of being their God. Atheism is the lack of belief of god. The word derives from Greek, theism meaning God/theology and A meaning no or anti. Self made morals aren't faulty. I agree with you that humans aren't perfect but we are able to produce morals. The God of classical theism (Islam, christianity and Judaism) gave us 10 commandments that were basically morals to follow, but we've developed our own that aren't flawed at all. Utilitarianism is a prime example of this. I dont want to offend you, but you've got a pretty skewed view of the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thanks for the etymology of atheism, but I know what it means. Of course they don't see themselves as their own God, but they are. Everyone has a master, whether they acknowledge it or not. And I would be truly scared if I was directing myself through this life of chaos. Morals are a sense of right and wrong, so coming from an imperfect person you can only end up with imperfect morals. You can't derive something perfect from something imperfect, and you can't obtain something pure from an impure source. All I can say is thank you because, as a Christian, I would hate for someone to say I have a 'normal' view of the world. I want to be in this world, not of it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol quran is bullshit and holocaust doesnt real fyi

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol and you deserve to die fyi. OP, i totally agree with you :) I'm glad there are some people who have something called logic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

learn to speak before you try and insult billions of people. arse.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wish you died in it, maybe then you'd believe it was real

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, the Qur'an is not about Jesus- thats one of the reasons they're doing it- I don't agree with it of course, but Jesus was NOT just a prophet he was a Messiah, God's Son. And saying anything less than that is a blasphemous lie... just sayin'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To muslims, Jesus was a prophet. therefore he's in the Quran. Theres a whole chapter dedicated to the Virgin Mary. its not lessening his importance in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Religious differences exist. There are several million people in the World that believe Jesus was a great Islamic prophet. There are also several million people in the World that believe he was something more. WE ARE NOT HERE TO DISCUSS THAT. There wouldn't be any point. You believe what you believe and that's a natural right. Jones is an idiot for burning the Koran. 1) Because now the Islamic extremists have a justified proof of their hate for America. It would almost make sense. If they burned the Bible, many people would go kinda wacko. 2) It's the most sacred possesion of the Muslims. To do so is ignorant and disguisting. The pure Muslims are just going to roll their eyes at his stupidity and the radicals are gunna go nuts.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with you on that. Because of that stupid Reverend, Muslim extremists have absolutely every right in the world to hate America, as if they didn't hate us Americans enough already. Also, on your second point, you said the Qu'ran is sacred, and it is. Muslims aren't even allowed to let the Qu'ran touch the ground, much less BURN it. How extremely disrespectful. Watch this guy get murdered in his sleep. That will be exciting. I can't wait.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1) So because about 50 Americans plan to burn the Quran, that's a justified reason for Muslims to hate a whole country? That is stupid bullshit. That's like saying because Nazi's were Germans, we should hate all Germans or because a Asian guy stole your car you should condemn all Asians. That is the reason so many ignorant Americans have unjustified racism toward Muslims in the first place. Just because The people who were responsible for 9/11 were Muslims doesn't mean all Muslims are crazy extremists. 2) Everyone should roll their eyes at his stupidity. "Distract the masses with trivial news. Mission Accomplished" -Media

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's absolutely terrible that this pastor and his followers think that they have the right to burn a holy book. Especially the holy book for a religion as beautiful as Islam. I come from a Christian background, but I have studied other religions all of my life. I am so appalled by their so called "Christian" behavior and attitudes that it almost makes me ashamed of my own religion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can't get a lot of Bibles over there in Arabia now, can you?
