+150 Adults that teach kids to fight are disgusting. How about instead of making your kid a bully, you teach them to actually be liked. amirite?

What if the kid is the one being bullied and they need to learn to defend themselves?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just because you teach someone to fight doesn't mean they're going to be a bully. And since when are learning how to fight and being liked mutually exclusive?

I won't teach my kids to fight - I'll teach them to fight back. Verbally and intellectually.

A well written, angry letter explaining why the bully is stupid sure beats a fist to the face any day.

But they won't be able to read it.

Yeah! If someone is trying to beat you up, just tuck and cower!

there are two ways of looking at this: you shouldn't teach kids to fight (as in fighting to solve problems): a punch in the face will stop a bully dead in there tracks, bully's prey on the weak, standing up verbally doesn't always work, the bully just doesn't care in many cases. a punch to the face is a great last resort way to get the bully to back off. you shouldn't teach kids how to fight: This means that when the inevitable fighting happens the bully nor the victim will know how to fight, meaning they are much more likely to cause more damage than they intend or hurt themselves. Most forms of fighting teach the kid self-discipline and respect and all teach them how to fight in a way to prevent unintentional harm and self-injury. Moderation is everything. A world where kids are taught to fight back only with diplomacy is just as bad as one with only fists.

Fuck that, i'm putting my kids in martial arts. If i'm ever not around them when someone tries to get them, I want them to be able to kick that persons ass. Or if they stick up for someone who is being beaten up. But if they go around beating people up for no reason i'll have a problem.

I don't think that's how bullies are created. I've always been under the impression that most bullies are just acting out because they are trying to cope with their own various forms of abuse.

My aunt thinks like this and her son gets bullied all the time, she's made him into some kind of punk who always gets beat up. It's not fair to him.

Because, you know, your charisma is going to get you //so// //far// when you're in about to get your ass beat in an alley. I'm a black belt and I'm anything but a bully. :/

Yes because, 1. When a parent teaches them to fight makes them disgusting, more like, maybe, obscene? 2. How is teaching your kid to fight make them a bully? if anything, it teaches them not to be. Most bullies don't know how to fight, F.Y.I. You can know how to fight but still be liked, I'm a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and Jujitsu but does that mean I'm a bully? No. It means I CAN kick peoples ass, I COULD (if I wanted) be a bully, but I'm not. All it does it teach you how to stand up for yourself. Something most bullies cant do. probably 90% of bullies Don't know how to fight. Now lets look at this from your perspective: All bullies kick other kids asses because they're not liked. No? Most bullies are only verbal bullies, and from my exeperience, most of the time a swift punch to the face or kick to the shins stops that. Your argument is invalid.

Sounds like someone got beat up.

Bullies aren't bullies because they can fight. They're bullies because 1) they have bad stuff going on at home and they're acting out or 2) they're just fucking douchebags and are going to do it regardless. Doesn't matter if they know how to fight or not.
