+184 Why do you have to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day? Isn't the point of a pledge to say you'll act a certain way from that point on? amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Who says it every day...?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

students?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My school doesn't...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

isnt it sort of a requirement for public schools?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Apparently not.. We've never said it

by Anonymous 12 years ago

that's good. they've banned God in all public schools. Now they've banned mentioning america.."it might offend a radical muslim who may happen to be enrolled in the school." fucking education system

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just because we don't say it doesn't mean it's banned. Also, when we have ACT preps or something, we pray before we eat and there's a club that meets every Wednesday that prays at the end of their meetings

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Joke Yeah, im pretty sure that's not allowed, as one of my old teachers got fired for having a discussion about evolution vs. God creating life... but i dont go to your school, so i dont guess i would really know lol

you're basically a dumbass it serves as a daily reminder that you are blessed to be living in such a wonderful country that grants liberties and luxuries that you wrongfully assume the right to, despite the fact there are millions of other kids who are starving and deprived of essential components to sustain a healthy lifestyle who are more deserving to live in a land where the opportunity to pursue a career, live in a house, have a family, and obtain general happiness is available to all citizens, no matter their race or social class. have some respect for your goddam country

a goddamn country filled with political corruption and greed that more than often neglects the poor. Not saying I'm not thankful that I am able to live here comfortably and mostly safe, and not saying that I have a problem with reciting the pledge of allegiance, but you make it seem as if the country were some sort of heaven. It is hardly so and there are numerous other countries I'd rather live in.

Political corruption? Okay, let's just establish a dictatorship. that'll get rid of all the arguing...??? Americans using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also called Food Stamps, rose in December of 2011, the most recent month for which data is available. It hit a now-historic high of 46,514,238 beneficiaries, an increase of more than a quarter million citizens from November's new revised total of 46,286,316.* The government spent $6.22 billion on Food Stamps in December, with participation in the program up 5.5% from a year earlier.--now that's what i call neglecting the poor compared to other countries, america is as close to heaven as you'll get... yeah there are other countries that might be better to live in, but one can't completely disregard everything positive that occurs in america... What are those other countries...? Just wondering...

Political corruption has nothing to do with the form of government. Democracy does not suddenly rid a country of corruption. Of course a dictatorship would be worse, but that doesn't mean I should or will be satisfied with dishonest and greedy leaders. You know what else is at a historic high? The poverty rates. The US has one of the highest poverty rates compared to other developed countries, at a nice 15.1%. There are also the 700,000-2 million people that are homeless Compared to many third-world countries, of course the US is a heaven. I am grateful for at least that much. But compared to other well developed countries, the US really could be better, and I honestly don't think it is the absolute greatest country to live in. And it's not as if I'm completely disregarding anything positive about the country. It's a good place filled with many opportunities, but it isn't the only country like that, and there are countries where people are generally happier to live in. And those countries I'd rather live in are Denmark, Norway, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands... I could go on for a bit to be honest.

The thing is, why not? I mean, we're missing a few minutes of learning shakespeare, to implant a spark of patriotism in our minds. Yeah, it's messed up, but I mean, I don't really mind.

Everyone at my school just lazily mumbles it and only stand up half the time. It really doesn't mean anything.

I haven't said the Pledge of Allegiance since the sixth grade, and I'm in the eleventh grade now. I rarely ever hear the National Anthem either. I only hear it at sporting events usually.
