+536 It's a wonder that smoking is even legal, I mean, all it's doing is slowly killing you and everyone around you, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, and marijuana does neither ands its illegal. go figure....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, one joint of marijuana is equal to 3-5 times the amount of lung damage that one cigarette makes. Though cannabis is sometimes used for medical purposes, it is still dangerous for its respitory damages, addiction purposes and heart damage (it increases blood pressure, heart rate and it reduces the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood). The "fact" that marijuana does nothing is actually a publicized myth. I hope that I helped educate you and prevent someone out there from getting addicted to marijuana.

Actually, no one even claims that pot is addictive, not even the government, so that's your first blatant factual error. Furthermore, studies are showing that pot actually isn't as damaging to your lungs as cigarettes. Obviously smoking anything isn't going to be healthy but marijuana doesn't have all the carcinogens and additives that cigarettes do. Oh, and using large words and calling it "marijuana" won't make you any more right. You should check this page out: http://www.drugpolicy.org/marijuana/factsmyths/ So will you shut up now?

You beat me to it, but job well done!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes thank you it can be exhausting to convince people that they are believing bs propaganda

by Anonymous 13 years ago

first off, it's NOT physically addictive. Yes, the smoke from marijuana does have more carcinogens than cigarettes but think about it, you don't smoke joints consecutively like you do with cigarettes so the exposure is much, much less. plus, there have never actually been any reported cases of cancer from marijuana smoke. It has medicinal uses: is a powerful pain reliever if used correctly. Sure, it can be bad for your health but in comparison to what is legal today - cigarettes and alcohol for instance - it's actually a better alternative in my opinion. As well, you cannot over-dose on it; whereas you will die from alcohol poisoning if you drink too much booze, if you smoke a lot of pot, the worst that will happen is you will fall into a deep sleep. Stop trying to be a smart-ass and learn the facts before you make such claims

Well one reason is because the tobacco industry makes billions of dollars every year, it'd be terrible for the economy to make it illegal especially over night. But they are trying to phase it out by banning places people can smoke.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And it makes you feel good, and you have a right to do it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eating junk food is also slowly killing you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No it's not. It's fine in moderation.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But it's not physically effecting others when you're stuffing your face with donuts. Why should I have to deal with the guy at the train station smoking? I'm not making that decision, he is, for me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

600 000 people die each year from second-hand smoke. People who smoke are worthless and pathetic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Your+name+(optional)): so my dad is now worthless and pathetic? My dad smokes outside because he doesn't want me to inhale any of that crap....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think it's very considerate of your dad to do that. Though, I still don't believe in smoking.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they make it illegal, people will still smoke it and gangsters will make money instead. It's exactly what happened to all other drugs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and if it wasn't legal it would put a strain on the health system. People would be living longer, more people would collect social securityy, medicare. more taxes. So it evens out

First of all, if you think that marijuana has no effects on the lungs, you're an idiot. You probably shouldn't be smoking that much weed if you think that marijuana is some sort of miracle drug. Inhaling ANY kind of smoke is not good for your lungs. Second of all, I don't see why people complain about second hand smoke so much. You have be around second hand smoke for most of your life before it will affect you. Getting a small whiff of it because you happen to past a smoker outside is NOT going to give you cancer. As far smokers rights, they have every right to do so. Look at it as a form of population control. The risks and warnings are pretty clear, so if someone's stupid enough to smoke, let them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

+1 for the population control part

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes inhaling any smoke is not good for you, but there are cleaner ways to consume marijuana-like with a vaporizer, it is technically not smoke it is vapor and all you would be getting is the thc and not the plant matter (the damaging part) Also people dont usually smoke marijuana as many times a day as someone that smokes ciggs (not everyone that smokes weed smokes ciggs) So I am sure that one bowl a day is less impactive than the 20 ciggs someone is smoking. marijuana can also be eaten, and it is in fact rich in omega 3's and fiber.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You've got me on the eating marijuana part, but not everybody uses vaporizers. I also know people who smoke marijuana like the average pack a day smoker smokes cigarettes. Let's all be honest with ourselves... Alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes are bad. Mmmmmkay. (not saying I'm straight edge or anything)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't even see why you'd want to smoke. "hm, what to do today...how about slowly kill myself?!"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In nebraska, you can't smoke outside or in any buildings. Just in your house or outside your house.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've been asking this question for years. Smoking is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Why would you voluntarily kill yourself?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think mobs would just form if they were to illegalize smoking, just like when they banned alcohol.
