-103 REally do we have to have gym class every day? Why should we all have to suffer through it? I mean who cares if the other teenagers get fat. It"s their own fault, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think it's because teens don't know what's good for them. And any method taken to prevent life threatening obesity is a good thing.

*some teens

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So? It would only prevent teenage obesity, and teens that didn't know that eating fat makes you fat would become obese soon after.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

removing fat foods from the school would be better. Or make them walk a mile to get it lol.

by Anonymous 7 years ago

Really? If you're suffering in gym class, you're extremely unfit.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not suffering in the physical way. At my school we don't do fitness at all in gym. We play amateur sports and take tests on how well we know the rules. I would like gym a //lot// more if we actually ran or did some working out. My school is huge on sports so I guess everyone has to play sports. I'd rather spend my time actually getting fit than move around watching other people show off their skills.

Personally, I hate gym because it takes up a free block and it's not worth my time. I work out every day and keep myself in top physical condition, only to waste time(in which I could be doing homework for my AP/Honors classes) lapping fat kids on the track.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But they can't discriminate against fat kids and only put fat and unfit kids in gym. That's bot really fair because then you're practically saying to them, you're too fat to have a free period.

I think at least in junior and senior years we can be trusted to choose if we want to take gym or not. Especially since those years are very busy, gym is a waste of time that can be used for schoolwork for some students.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At my school, you're required to take 4 semesters of gym or a sport, so most people just get it over with in the first 2 years.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At my school it's required Freshman year, then starting Sophomore year you don't have to take it if you play at least two sports.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At my school no one can tell me what to do. That's college bitches.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

All I had to do was take physical education in grade 9 for 1 semester and you never had to do it again.... I did enjoy it but I have other things to take care of.

What are you talking about...PE is a super fun class. I took it like 10 out of 12 trimesters in high school. There's no greater satisfaction than hitting someone in the face with a dodgeball.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I wish I had it every day we have it only once a week

Gym class definitely needs some changes made at my school. When they play sports, they don't explain the rules of the sports at all. They just assume everyone plays by the same rules and that everyone knows how to play in the first place. They also need to add in more variety, and what variety they have needs to be more effective. During the swimming unit they should try to actually teach people how to swim if they don't know, and they should teach new strokes to people who do. They should also have weightlifting and flexibility units to make use of the weight room for people other than football players. But OP, it's much easier to stay fit when you have a specific routine. Gym class could also teach people healthy habits, but sadly that rarely happens.

Bzz-bzzzzzt. Someone doesn't know anything about being fat. Your weight is heavily influenced by your genetics. Some people have trouble gaining weight, some have trouble losing weight, some have trouble gaining muscle. Sometimes, they can't help it without going to the extremes (eating disorders, excessive exercise, etc.), and even then, for some people, it won't work. And I think PE sucks, but not because we're forced to do it. My PE classes focused on competition. If you sucked, you didn't try that hard, and that means you didn't work out well. Those who did well tried harder and actually worked out. And that's not how it should be, being self-conscious about your own talents. Especially in middle school and high school, where kids are much more judgmental. PE should be more about doing actual workouts, not sports. Sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, etc. They're trying to make it fun but in the process, half the people aren't having fun, and they're not gaining anything.

I got a 10 spot that says theyre fat

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm sorry, I didn't know only fat people needed exercise.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't get why this is down voted, there are plenty of skinny people who can't run for more than five minutes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't know about you guys, but when I was in high school, PE was everyone's favourite class, even if you weren't in shape. A lot of people lost weight and joined teams.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At my school, if you play a school sport, you don't have to take gym at all.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

PE does absolutely nothing for me. It's a huge waste of time. Working out on my own would be better. The only time PE made me active and helped me lose weight was when we started track and doing workouts (which only lasted a week). Near the end of the year, my PE teacher got pregnant and our stand-in let us do whatever we wanted. I'd jog around the track field - it was way more than I ever did in our soccer/football unit. It's always a popularity contest anyway, with the popular kids throwing the ball to their friends, while everyone else sits there awkwardly.

I half agree with this. We need PE because some people just don't exercise otherwise. On the other hand, a lot of times, it's our own faults. I'm fat and I know it's my fault. Only now am I trying to lose weight because I figured out I might get diabetes. I think the ideal PE would be split into three parts. The first would be working out (running, stretching, pushups, etc.) the second would be a sport, and the third would be actual education. Like telling us about what'll happen if we don't get fit. We all know diabetes and being overweight is bad, but no one actually tells us all the details why.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Our school would let us take band as a P.E. credit troll

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I agree. Pe classes at my school aren't exercise. They don't keep anyone in shape and don't teach anything. I play 3 varsity sports, I'm pretty sure I don't need to spend an hour a day playing basketball.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I find it hilarious that people are dumb enough to think one PE class a day is enough to get kids in shape or make them want to get in shape... Not to mention STAYING in shape

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I never took a gym class, I got excussed for health reasons and did a lot of extra brain work, graduated early. Maybe instead of gym fat kids should be put into food class with only steamed vegetables.
