Well then do you propose we reverse the roles? Put the middle and lower classes in a position to fund the entire country by paying more of their wages to the government? Take a history class. Such actions only lead to bloody revolts.

So what you're saying is a person who makes a $100,000 a year should pay the same as someone who makes $25,000 a year? Or should a person who makes $25,000 a year have to pay the same as someone who makes $100,000 a year? Either way YOU're the idiot, teachers work a hundred times harder than Bustin Beavers, but they don't even make a 10th of what he makes. So you're saying people like Rebecca Black deserve what they have? You're saying people like Paris Hilton deserve what they have? People like George Bush? The same percentage is not the same amount. Let's say the income tax is the same for everyone and it is 10%. The people who make $100,000 pay $10,000 in taxes and the people who make $25,000 pay $2,500. As you can see, the higher income pays the most in taxes. Rebecca Black and Paris Hilton are just an example of some people who have gotten lucky in life. Because they're so popular everybody recognizes them and makes the assumption that people who have as much money as them just got lucky and don't deserve the money they have.

Yeah, but the thing about that is... there are a lot of people who "just got lucky and don't deserve the money they have." The cast of Jersey Shore, Teen moms probably get paid to be on that show, and a bunch of other reality tv shows....

although i understand that everyone should pay equal taxes, i would think that in this time of financial hardship for the government, the wealthiest 2% of the country would be in much better position to handle a tax increase than the lower/middle class.

I would say it is fair, and you are wrong. First, all people in the US, not just the rich, have to pay federal income taxes. Second, unless you are comparing the very top of a tax bracket to the very bottom of the next higher one, people will still always have more money after taxes than anyone with a lower income, so they have no right to complain. If they can't manage with the money they have after taxes, then it's their own fault for not living within their means. Third, the rich do have a say in where tax money goes. Everyone obviously has voting rights, and because many of the people in the state or nation's Congress are rich, they would have similar personal interests along with their political interests. Lastly, the government has to be payed for somehow. Higher taxes don't hurt the rich any more than they affect everyone else, so they have the means to pay extra.

"If they can't manage with the money they have after taxes, then it's their own fault for not living within their means." This statement applies especially to people of lower incomes. If people make lots of money and want to spend it because they think they'll be happier with expensive things, WHY SHOULDN'T THEY?? Also as a side note, if rich people suddenly stopped splurging their money on fancy things, then these fancy things will no longer need to be produced, therefore laying off thousands of laborers who are part of the middle and lower classes.

May I just say TRUE Democracy would be the poorer in charge. They have always been the larger group. Yet we still live in a way where the rich hold the most power. Someone of a lower wage will always notice a tax increase where as a higher wage can afford the needed things and still have money for other things without having to cut bits from their spending so much. Although a rich person can work hard to earn their money, can you really say it is identical to someone who does back breaking work for hardly any money? Even if it starts out that way, after a while money makes money and eases the work.
