dating your best friend is a mistake, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's funny because I just literally broke up with my best friend-turned-boy friend this morning and this is the first thing I see on the amirite homepage. He says he's never going to talk to me again. Friend tally: -1 (cry2)

I LOVE YOU AMIRITE FRIENDSSSSSS

Why is it a mistake?
by Anonymous12 years ago
If you break up, it could very well ruin the friendship you had before.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Not necessarily. I believe if you're truly friends with someone, you'll never stop being their friend.
And maybe it's just me, but I've always ended my relationships on good terms. If both people can be laid back about it and not take everything so seriously, I believe two best friends would make a great couple.

I know it doesn't always. Some people are immature about ending relationships, while others are mature about it.
Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but I think that's what OP was talking about.

Well, then for me it was the most wonderful mistake I've ever made.

My best friend and I have been dating for a year and four months without any "breaks". It has been the most amazing year of my life.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm neutral. I've seen it go both ways.

Well I don't agree or disagree with this post.
My best friend who's a girl dated her best guy friend and that ended badly.
But I have been dating my best guy friend for 7 years and we're engaged.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'd rather them turn into my best friend the longer we're together.

If you're best friends with someone it means that you get along and have things in common. Aren't those too factors the basis to a great relationship? Sure, maybe you'll break up and maybe it'll ruin the friendship, but maybe you won't. Maybe you'll find out you're soulmates, who knows. The point I'm trying to make is that I'm sick of seeing 'it will ruin our friendship' as an excuse to not date someone. If you're both attracted to each other, then go ahead, take the risk. If you're both mature, there will be no risk and you'll be able to have an amical breakup (unless, of course, the breakup was caused by infidelity, which is not cool). If you're hesitant on dating your best friend because you're afraid of the consequences, remember that that feeling of not wanting to lose someone close to you applies to almost all relationships. Plus, I've seen people chose not to enter a relationship with a friend and thus weakening the friendship, since their friend was only hanging around because they were interested. It's sad, but life can be sad that way. In the end, it all depends on YOUR CHOICE. Do what feels right to you and let life unfold without worrying about what COULD happen.
