+387 It's a well-known fact that shirts with horizontal stripes make you appear wider than you really are, so we should try to avoid those, yet you can't recall the last time you saw a shirt with vertical stripes, amirite?

vertical and horizontal aren't interchangeable words. This post ceases to make any sense.

I think OP doesn't mean that horizontal and vertical are the same. I think they're saying that even though horizontal stripes make you look bigger you almost never see a shirt with vertical stripes which would make you look better in comparison.

Yes, that's definitely what I meant, thank you. (:

My shirt has vertical stripes :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it means any type of clothing, like buisness suits that have a pin-stripe jacket :)

Actually the last one I saw was this shirt I got from Old Navy in the 90's, but they are rare so YYA

ever heard of pinstripes?

actually, horizontal stripes make you appear slimmer. as shown in the helmholtz square optical illusion in which a square filled in with horizontal lines appears taller than one of exactly the same dimensions but filled with vertical stripes.
