+297 Making fun of tourists is fun until you're the tourist. amirite?

Even then it's fun. You have to learn to laugh at yourself. I toured South Korea and Japan with my band over the summer. We all knew that we looked like morons and that the natives were mocking us. That kind of made it more fun. At least for me. I knew that as a tourist, nobody expected me to be impressive, and I knew they would make fun of me no matter what I did, and so I didn't have to worry about trying to impress anyone.

It was pretty awesome. To be honest, though, I liked Japan a lot more. For one thing, I just didn't like the food in Korea. Everyone else did but I could barely keep it down. But also, the big cities in Japan are are a lot easier on the eyes. In Korea the buildings are all covered in advertisements and it was a bit overwhelming to look at. It was still amazing though. The people were wonderful. I got to play concerts almost every day and then go talk to the audience when we were done, and they were really cool. And we visited a lot of cool little shops and some Buddhist temples. The culture is just so different there it was an incredible experience. I would definitely love to go back if I could afford it.

so did you listen to any korean artist?

Well kind of. When I say I went with my "band" I mean band as in flutes and trumpets and french horns. It was my college Wind Symphony. And we played with and heard other wind ensembles. There wasn't a lot of opportunity to listen to pop music on the tour. However I have a good friend who lives next door to me and is Korean, and he makes me listen to his Korean music often.
