-236 It's not such a big deal if someone ruins the end of a book for you; the important part isn't what the ending is, but how it happened. Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But it affects how you read the book because you anticipate things. It changes the experience, maybe not for the worse, but it can.

IF I had known the end of Death Note before I read it, no matter how it happened, it would've ruined the series.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would disagree. The ending to death note was not surprising, it was pretty much what I expected, I almost couldn't imagine it ending any other way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, you're not supposed to predict how it ends. That's the point of a series like Death Note.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, I wouldn't say that was the point of Death Note. Sometimes it gave us surprises and held back information for a while to keep us suspenseful but most of the time it was open about what was going on and you just got drawn in by the storyline. In any case I definitely wouldn't say that was the point of the whole series because the ending is just such a small part of such a long and detailed story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The entire reason for the series, as stated by Ohba, was to create an entirely suspenseful series. He didn't want people to know how it would end, even Obata had no idea before hand. He didn't even want to tell people who was wrong, and who was right. That's the entire point of chapter 108. The only reason it ended like it did was. And besides, the ending was entirely because of an error on you know whos part.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You could argue that who's wrong and who's right is still up to the viewer after the ending, even though it seems like the series heavily implies that light is the bad guy. And even though that may have been his entire reason for creating the show, I can still personally have the opinion that it's not the most important part of the series as it ended up.

*while reading HBP* "Have you gotten to the part where Dumbledore dies yet?" "What?" "Yeah, Snape kills him." "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!" ;_; Carly has never lived down those two sentences...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

D': same thing happened to me, but REPEATEDLY online, so i couldn't have a chance at all to forget it. cruel.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same here. I'm still pissed about it...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, yeah, unless it's a mystery.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hate when people spoil endings for me, but I like spoiling it for others. Lol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My friend is always giving me spoilers. He has no filter. I've only seen half of Code Geass and I know almost everything that happens at the end.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, but the point of the post is, the book is still enjoyable. It sucks when people ruin the end but there's still the whole journey left.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the great part about stories is the suspense and excitement you feel, the compassion you have for the characters and the happiness you get when they succeed after you've been rooting for them. If you know the main character dies at the end, why they die, who causes the death, how they die, what lead up to the death and all that other stuff, it's hard to ejoy it. If someone tells me what the frig happens at the end of the hunger Games, I;m gonna be pssed. I'm already mad because I just read a comment with a spoiler about it.(to avoid spoilers for the series, I will not be reading anymore comments on this post until I finish it.)

"If you know the main character dies at the end, why they die, who causes the death, how they die, what lead up to the death and all that other stuff, it's hard to enjoy it." ^^ You haven't read my post closely enough. That's my point. If someone walked up to you and said "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE", it wouldn't ruin that much for you because there are all the subplots and underlying messages.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're saying subplots are a decent substitute for the actual plot? No. And I get mad if somone ruins a subplot or a joke too. And the message means more if you know what the charcaters are going through and because the characters are limited by the lack knowledge of what's going to happen, the experience is completely different. By feeling what the characters are feeling, we have a better understanding of the message the book is supposed to send us.

I absolutely refuse to get in a fight with someone on the internet. I'm sorry if you don't agree with my opinion, but that is just the way I feel. And I'm sick of people trying to tell me that my opinions are wrong. I mean, seriously?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

WHAT!? You're upset because people are disagreeing with you? On THIS site!? The POINT is to see if people disagree with your opinions!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not exactly. The point is to post your ideas so other people can see and possibly laugh at them. I am seriously sick of people taking this so seriously. It's supposed to be enjoyable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, we still have the option to tell you you're wrong, which is what we're supposed to do if we disagree. We're allowed to say we don't agree with you. Get over it, it's not that big a deal.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Seriously. O.O

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do this for every book I read before I start: I flip to the last page and read the last sentence. It sort of spices up the reading a bit for me, because I have no clue what the last sentence MEANS yet. :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I always read the last page first. ALSO Snape kills Dumbledore Luke is really the hero (Percy Jackson) Darth Vader is Luke's father Peeta goes insane, but gets better in the end Fred dies Tonks dies Lupin dies Dobby dies Prim dies Finnick dies I can't think of anymore off the top of my head.
