+343 If we're living in this very moment--the here and now--then that is all that exists. following this logic, time does not actually exist. amirite?

So the past never happened? In that case, this post doesn't exist, and I will never finish writing this comment.

the past, time, are figments of imagination that are necessary and vital to us. if all that exists is this exact moment, these two things do not really exist. it's just an idea i threw out into cyberspace. still mulling it over in my brain ^.^v how is it then that you won't ever finish writing that comment? explain

There's no future, no next. In the future of the moment of the typing of this word, this comment is posted.

nice. i meant to list 'future' alongside past and time, now that i think of it. there is no future...

Personally, I try to avoid thinking about these things until I'm extremely bored. Kinda hurts every now and again...

i know, it really hurts the brain--similar, too, to picturing what existed before the universe, or how small we really are...very overwhelming things! (and the idea that you finishing the comment/the future doesn't exist blowed my mind, a little bit :D) i love thinking about these things, though. it keeps me motivated, i guess. i love the mystery (almost surreality) of it!

You'd fit in perfectly in my geometry class.

Time is a human construct. Obviously the past, present and future exists, but how we see/explain them is a cultural construct. Not all cultures see time as a straight line, like we in the West do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

how can you say they obviously existed? :P no, i get what you're saying. and i agree that it is a cultural construct, of course
