-22 Volleyball is an underappreciated sport, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

how is this only at +1?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you kidding me? I don't know about where you live or anything, but where I live/go to school, volleyball is the "it" thing (besides dance...but that's besides the point).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

where do you live/go to school..?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I'm obviously not gonna say my school. But I live in TN....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is a little, but the people at my school look up to us since we won Gold division in the tournament in September.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

volleybal- not a sport. all you do is hit a ball up in the air. babies can do that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can babies hit a ball over 6-7 foot net, and jump that high to actually spike it over and onto the floor to where the girl on the other sides can't even blink to hit it in time? I don't think so.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bitch. Prepare to die. Hitting a ball in the air... Simplistic, yes, but that is not even the beginning. It starts with the serve- a graceful, quick arc skimming the net ploping directly into the campfire before those lame-os even have a chance to drool. Then serve recieve, passing the hurtling ball within a very small area to the setter. Too close to the net, tip, to far- bad set. Then the setter. They have to in the time it takes the ball to get to them analyze the entire court, check the team and blockers, pick the best hitter for the job, and call it out, not to mention actually setting the ball to the correct area at the right height. The hitter has to time the hit perfectly, leaping into the air and smashing to ball down right behind the blockers. The ultimate kill. Do that, and you can say it's easy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

^You've obviously never played real volleyball, troll.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

^You've obviosly never used the reply button, anon.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes all of those underage girls in spandex deserve far more recognition.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not where I am, and besides, you always see other sports on tv, football, golf, tennis, swimming, track, basketball, baseball, but never volleyball.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because only underage girls play volleyball. Tell that to three quarters of the Olympic volleyball players.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Volleyball isn't that tiring? Try running a Mini-marathon.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

golf?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Volleyball and marathons are completely different, yet equally tiring. Marathons go from endurance, whereas volleyball is short burst of exersion. Like sprints.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its can be if you actually play it right. Even if it wasn't that tiring, its still a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

baseball is just hitting a ball and running around bases. Soccer is just kicking a ball into a net. Running a marathon is just running. These are all sports. Volleyball is too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Soccer is just kicking a ball in a net You forgot the teamwork portion. Kicking a ball towards a net guarded by 11 people just makes you look like a dumbass. Soccer may not look impressive, but it is a hell of a lot harder than it looks. Especially if you don't have any stamina.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what about football? Guys have it easy, anyone can throw, catch, run. Volleyball is all about angles and rebound. You think 'well football players get tackled' They have padding. Its not fun running in another girl, jumpig and landing wrong, and getting hit in the face with aball going 50 mph (no exaggeration) without protection

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh hell no. I'm a guy and I despise football, but even I know football isn't easy. If you aren't extremely bulky you're going to get killed. And padding isn't going to stop everything from hurting you. Volleyball is definitely not harder than football.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Basically, volleyball is as hard as football.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd have to disagree. Football is much harder. I'm not saying volleyball is easy, I'm just saying there's no way in hell it's harder or even as hard as football.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you dont know how hard volleyball is unless you play it. We have to hit the ball perfect to get it where we want it, we hit it the slightest bit off to the side it will shank off the court. My team has a serving machine that can send the ball 200 mph. If you have that hit your arms it will leave welts and bruises tat will take FOREVER to heal

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In the locker room, guys are fully naked...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what does that have to do with anything

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nothing, nothing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Disagree. In volleyball, you can't just tackle the bitch in a fit of rage. Can't even touch them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the most annoying thing ever is to hear the frshman football players complain about having half practice, a game the next day and then no practice the rest of the week. Us volleyball players had 2 games 2 days in a row, practice, another game and than we had our friday conditioning. the fb players annoy the hell out of us, but then again they are the most cocky stupid fb players ever (our football team sucks, we lose everygame)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't even like football so feel free to bash it and all its players all you want. I don't care. And that's just your school. My friend plays football and he has practice almost every day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Amen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

volleyball is hard as fuck. it looks easy because the people who play it are actually good, and make it look easy. i play volleyball and it is sure as hell not easy. especially playing with guys. please, try to pass a ball hit at over 60 mph going almost straight down, or directly at your face, then tell me how easy it is and that its not a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

amen to that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why is this in the negatives? I don't even..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...because volleyball isn't underappreciated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The comments indicate otherwise.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And of course the comments are a perfect indication of the entire worlds opinion. There are probably hundreds of sports out there as great or greater than volleyball that barely anyone knows of, I just see things in perspective. Volleyball really isn't that spectacular.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I beg to differ.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It seems you're mistaking me for someone who cares.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It seems like you're a douche bag.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I beg to differ. (we're going in circles)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I prefer squares.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Triangles are better. A square is really just two triangles anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True true. Triangles are superior.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They are "überpolygons" as good old Adolf would have said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know. I play soccer. I was just making the point that volleyball is a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In volleyball, guys and girls dive all over the hard ground with as much as knee pads, if that. Football players roll around on soft ground, with a ton of padding. You might not run as much in volleyball, but it takes a lot of skill to be able to hit and get the ball in, not as hard as you can to hit the back wall. Besides, back row players? They dive all over the place and hit the ball that's coming 50 mph to the other side of the court.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

god try swimming thats the biggest underappreciated sport

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I play volleyball and when we play it in gym everyone thinks they are so good, when really all of their hits are illegal and the courts we are playing on is half of the size of a regular court. Yes volleyball would be easy if you could carry the ball and hit it twice and touch the net, but you can't and that is where you have to have skill so you can get the same result as catching and throwing the ball, but by passing. It takes many reps and lots of disipline to learn how to hit the ball in the exact spot, and to run different plays, and to learn the other teams rotation and who their hitters and setters are and their weaknesses all within armups and the first few points of the game. It is hard physically and extremly hard mentally.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Reading all these comments, a lot of people are infering that only girls play volleyball. I play and I'm a guy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Volleyball takes no stamina. The only movement is trying to get the ball or rotating positions. Not to mention the 15-30 second break you get after each point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you are so wrong about that. do you have any idea how much running you have to do in volleyball?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ugh! Anerobic Exercise- Short bursts of extreme work (sprints, dash, any quick relatively short movement) Areobic Exercise- Long use of a muscle at a relativly low exersion (xc, stamina, endurance) Both are equally taxing in different ways.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It makes up for it in skill and strength needed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Skill and Strength... Most volleyball players aren't strong just coordinated... And last I checked coordination and skill is Nascar?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well you've got to be pretty strong to slam a ball 50 mph over a net in mid air.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i don't think volleyball is under-appreciated. it's a tough sport. it takes just as much skill and stamina as most sports. it's not easy to be good at volleyball; the amount of precision needed to play well is great. and it takes a lot of determination. but you can say the same for many other sports too. swimming takes a lot of precision and endurance; swimmers can swim miles without stop. soccer players run a lot as well. they have to be able to dribble the soccer ball and guard it from others at the same time. you can't argue which sport is better than another sport because they're all unique and regardless, the people who play these sports put a lot of effort into playing them and doing well.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. A few centimeter off in hand placement, and the set is shanked not to mention a double hit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

YES! People think we just go out there and prance around the court in our little spandex. WRONG. It's so annoying!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We are not pretty girls prancing around in spandex. It is not "not hard" Football is not "way harder" Volleyball is a skill, precision, and speed sport. Not force, strength, and endurace. You have to jump high, move fast, pay attention, place your hits, and be in top physical form. All aspects of health are used. Every muscle. Google: volleyball pancake the floors are wood. We only have two tiny knee pads.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Volleyball is a true sport. I am a guy who has played travel for four years and lemme tell you, ive: swam (6 years) played football (1 year) played lacrosse (3 years) played roller and ice hockey(2 years each) and volleyball Volleyball is so precise and takes so much dedication. the "jocks" at my school couldn't last an instant in a game. At nationals, you play for 3 days, around 7 hours a day (which in a tournament, is about 3-4 games) you go try!! I love volleyball and wouldnt choose another sport! and btw, volleyball you need: a great verticle, coordination, strength, dedication, accuracy, and more. and btw, i dont even wear knee pads and my knees are FUCKED up!
