+419 Why is Texas America's main authority on school textbooks? That's like putting Nebraska in charge of ocean liners, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Texans are not hillbillies who live in trailers, and ride horses everywhere (assuming that's what you're implying) Texas is home to the 4th largest city in America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Of course I'm not implying that they're hillbillies. That's South Carolina.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well you're still implying that Texans are stupid...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well what the post is talking about is when the Texas board of education voted to censor out a few Presidents and founding fathers who they didn't agree with. They also screwed with some info on the Civil War and the idea of separation of church and state.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, what exactly did they change, so I can decide if I agree with you or not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i wrote a current event on that for my gov. class and a termpaper on that for U.S. history. They are limiting the number of mentions of minorities and democrats because they"ruin the morals of the country." These are fairly new changes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*term paper

by Anonymous 13 years ago

glad i got the information before they started this

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats disgusting, basically lying to children. I will not have my future children lied to like this

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's horrible isn't it? Fortunately, there is one woman on the Texas Education Board that won't stand for this. She actually left the meeting shouting and complaining how they can't just pretend that minorities don't exist. Additionally, they Education Board is using euphemisms for terms like "imperialism" and will be portraying the south during the civil war in a more positive light (if that's even possible).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No that isn't true. When I took American history we learned all about the civil war. And there were no censored out presidents. And im from the third largest city in Texas.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This happened recently, way to keep up to date with your own state.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(SassyGayBestFriend) Ohh, well I just remember 8th grade history thats when I took U.S. history.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

San Antonio!!!! Countdown City!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

twas only a joke my friend. laugh! be merry!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Texas people are scary. They know little about the issues they feel so strongly about.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hope you know you're talking about more than 24 million people. I think you are the one that knows little about the issues you feel so strongly about.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Whoa don't go calling every single one of them scary and ignorant, besides i'm sure you'll find that in any state.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its not even insulting the entire state, he even said already that it's because of the censorship the state does to textbooks

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No he didn't. The user eldorito was talking about the people of Texas, not the textbooks or Board of Education.

@643048 (CarmelFuzzy): My bad, for some reason the mobile site doesn't show that the person replying to another user sometimes. I thought it was aimed at the OP

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, no problem. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't agree with how they remove information [unless it's obscenely graphic], but I'm sure other states would remove stuff, too. I heard they also changed their textbooks to say the Civil War was started over slavery, which it wasn't. It doesn't mean Texas in incapable. It just means Texas is less-capable than other areas.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Unfortunately they're one of the largest states with reagard to textbook sales.. :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Damn, I hate stereotypes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Next thing you know, science class will be gone from their curriculum.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Texas makes all the calculators, too. :I

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What does this have to do with anything?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://i.cnn.net/money/.element/img/1.0/sections/mag/fortune/fortune500/2007/snapshots/texas_instruments.jpg hurr durr. /lame.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, I am aware of what Texas Instruments is. My mom has worked there for over 25 years and is currently on a business trip in Asia because of it. I was simply asking about how the fact that those calculators being made in Texas affects their function.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in texas, and I agree with this post. Many of the people who are on the school board are quite biased. However, I have had some really great U.S. History teachers that teach beyond simply what the textbooks say. As to some of the other comments, please don't judge my entire state based on one ignorant representative group. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm Texan. Texas doesn't have one official textbook that is used in all of the schools. Each district decides which book will be used. In 11 years of being in school I have never found a textbook that has had stuff missing. You guys are basing all of your assumptions on stupid stereotypes. You should stop being ignorant and grow up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In theory, wouldn't you have no idea if something was left out of your textbook, because you would never have heard of it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nope. My dad is a history teacher. And history is my favorite subject.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Breakfast fan, I'm a South Carolinian but what in TARNATION do you mean we're all rednecks? I'll try to put this as simply as I can, seeing as since I was born in South Carolina I must not know anything (besides how to go muddin'), but..ahem..fuck you. And don't bitch about the reply button, I'm on this contraption they call a "cellular device".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pretty sure he was joking. To some extent >.>

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't being serious. Obviously all South Carolinians aren't rednecks the same way all people from Massachusetts aren't pussies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why is this post in the positive???

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i love nebraska

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in Nebraska!!! It's very rare for it to be mentioned any where!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

^Well as long as you weren't being serious then that's fine. And I've never heard that people from Massachusetts are pussies haha that's odd
