+622 It's pretty fucking awesome that a bill was just passed in the US that says commercials can't be louder than the actual program. amirite?

WHAT DID YOU SAY, I CANNOT HEAR YOU OVER THE COMMERCIALS? When is the proclaimation date?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not sure but here is a link http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20101001/00270611245/senate-passes-bill-to-try-to-quiet-tv-commercials.shtml

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sorry, I cannot hear you over how awesome I am. Thanks anyways.

I don't really see the big deal over any of it. Most people skip/ignore commercials anyway. There are bigger things to be worried about than volume of something largely ignored.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree there are bigger issues at hand; however this was an issue that could be a major disruption because big companies let it get out of hand and the TV networks weren't doing anything about it.. They could fix it so they did. BTW I don't always skip over my commercials and you can't exactly "IGNORE" them if they are blasting your eardrums.

When an ad agency or production house makes an ad, the sound is not always compatible across platforms. That's why there is volume discrepencies. Therefore, if the same ad goes to different networks, or different stations, it will come sound differently depending on where it goes. The television station can do some control on the sound boards. Production firms would have to adjust the sound on the ad numerous times to custom fit each medium it sends it to.

Oh okay.. So it's just an innocent coincidence they scream at me about their latest product? It has NOTHING to do with them wanting to drill their message into my skull... I cannot believe you actually bought this crap and are trying to sell me on it. Either you're up way too late or you are one gullible fuck.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right, because you post on a public forum knowing that it's open to discussion/debate. Either way, it's not all screaming. Get real. And I would know, considering that I work in an ad agency/public relations firm and get all your little friends, including you, to buy into belief sets.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Debate? Please, your idiotic brainwashed response was nowhere near such. "Either way", it's fucking loud and ridiculous. "Get real". "And I would know, considering" that I watch television and don't appreciate getting my ears raped. Makes sense you would work for a blood-sucking soulless company though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm brainwashed? No. I just have insider information that doesn't fall congruent with what you THINK you know.Soulless company? Nah. My "soulless company" does more for charity in two months than what you have probably done in your whole life. What is soulless is the agency I worked at that worked on the campaign strategy for Obama. Hate that place.

I don't like to be ear-raped by my TV. I find it a positive change, as opposed to what else has been going on. They could have made a bill to... I don't know... have nomusic volume louder that the person listening to it, speaking at normal volume. But no, they did something that would make a majority of the public be like: "Yay! My TV doesn't scream at me anymore!" So there's the percentage that won't care because they change the channel when a commercial comes on, and the other percentage of people who work in "ad agency/public relations firm" who don't find the bill to be a big deal. I do watch commercials, because I do not want to miss a part of my program, and I appreciate that I won't have to turn the TV up when the program comes back on, because my ears have accustomed to the volume of the commercials. Thanks. Don't you just love it when someone agrees with a person and the person just feels the need to argue anyways? Funny stuff, huh?

(Bring it on beeyotch): tl;dr

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Bring it on beeyotch): I know. It's like how can you debate this law? It's only going to have positive results.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You guys are overdramatic. If your ears are getting "raped", turn the volume down. Wow, problem solved.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh okay so when I develop the physic ability to determine when the commercials are going to come on I'll let you know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you look at the tv every minute or so so than you can see when your show comes back on.. at least thats what I do, anyways..
