Shaanarora: I'm aware of a lot of "issues": feed the children, abuse, cancer, et al - but that doesn't mean I do anything about it.

By the way, I wrote this post in consideration that I was involved in a non-profit organization for 6+ years, and also currently write press releases for national non-profit organizations. There is a major disconnect between people being "aware"/saying they care and what people actually do about it.

I think awareness helps, but only a little. I mean I guess the awareness could spread to someone who could make a change, but that's not always the case
