That actually isn't equivalent... however you could say why do we use english or letters in Chemistry/Science

Well, the number usually only represents the value of amount of something, you don't know what it is until you've introduced letters(variables). Plus, how would you learn to do real-life problems and develop your own thinking skills if all you'd get on a worksheet is equations?
