You're missing the point of the post. Dumb Americans believe by adding a "u" to anything it makes it British. Therefore, if they were trying to make "morning" sound British, they would try to spell it "mourning," completely changing the context of the sentence.

No, American English is spelled slightly different than English used in other parts of the world. There are only maybe a few hundred words that are spelled differently, though, and one of those words is in this very sentence. "Spelled" is usually spelled as "spelt" in other English speaking countries, for example.

It's funny that you should say that, because to an American, word's like "spelt" or "learnt" sound really childish and uneducated. It's all about perspective. Also, it's easy to say "no offense," but it's a little harder to actually mean it. ("Offense" is another word that is "spelled" differently, by the way.) It's not as if every American woke up one day and decided to change it. It's been like this for centuries. Languages change. It's like if I told you that you are spelling everything wrong because you don't use ancient Beowulf-esque Germanic English. It's very ignorant and ethnocentric of you to think that your way is the only way.
