-178 You went through that phase as a kid where you called your parents by their first names (and this annoyed them), amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah I did that until I was 4 :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Never. It's kind of disrespectful. And I get smacked in the head if I'm disrespectful.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, seriously. My dad used to go apeshit if I called him Miguel, even when I was joking around. I still don't call any adults by their first name. Ever.

I went through that phase, but I don't think it annoyed them. But I was a little kid so maybe I just didn't realize that it annoyed them.

I called them by their first names, but it didn't annoy them. In fact, I still call my father by his first name.

The only word you chose to correct in that comment was 'kid'?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nd first. Sorry, this is my first touchscreen phone. Calm yo' tits.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, I went(and an still going) through the "mother" and "father" phase. Now THAT annoys them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My parents have no problem with my calling them by their first names... though for some reason I'm more comfortable calling my mother by hers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

For a really short time hahah, I was three and couldn't understand why everyone called my dad Tommy, and he was just daddy to me. Didn't last long though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

my dad's name was my first word xD

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I only call my parents by there real names to get their attention. Although I go through phases of calling them mother and father in other languages.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Only is this case: "Mom. Mom. Mom. Mom! MOM! Mama. Mama. Mommy. Mommy. MOMMY! MOMMY! MOM! MAMA! MOM! MOM! LIZZZZ!!! LIIIIZZZZZ!!! LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!" to get my mom's attention.

I just do it jokingly and my parents seem to have no problem with it.

I'm Afrikaans; we don't even call other adults by their first names. Heck we don't even say 'you' to any adults. It's disrespectful. Adult males are "0om" and adult females are "tannie", I actually feel uncomfortable talking to older people in English. In Afrikaans 'you, your' etc are replaced with what you call them. (Oom, tannie, mamma, pappa) it gets tedious I'll admit, but feels wrong otherwise.
