Disagree. Beauty is not skin deep you can be overweight and still have a pretty face. Its about how you carry yourself not your body shape or even what you look like

i think the OP is saying, its not ok to tell obese people theyre "beautiful" and have them convinced being unhealthy is beautiful. fat people can have pretty faces, but they need to be aware being obese is unhealthy and dangerous.

My mother told me I was fat nearly everyday (I was a pretty average weight) that pushed my self esteem so low I gained tinned of weight. I then got a boyfriend who told me I was beautiful, he gave me the courage and motivation to lose the weight I gained. I guess the trouble isn't calling a fat person beautiful, something more along the lines of 'perfect'. Just, sometimes being called beautiful can get you places :)

i see nothing wrong with saying someone is beautiful, but when someone is obese (or close to it) i think you shouldnt be mean, and criticize, but i think you shouldnt tell them theyre "perfect they way they are", which i see so many people doing. they can be beautiful people, but being unhealthy isnt beautiful. lots of people say stuff like "big is beautiful" or "your body doesnt define you" and thats true, but people take it to the extreme, and forget its unhealthy and in some ways theyre hurting the person with all the health problems that come with obesity. im glad you found someone who didnt criticize you and helped you get healthy :)

Overweight people can be beautiful. The thing is, if an obese person believes they are beautiful, they won't do anything to lose weight, and they can get serious health problems.

It's still not great to tell someone who is unhealthy that they don't need to be healthy... it's just wrong. They may be beautiful on the inside, but you shouldn't encourage them to be unhealthy

Being obese is not, nor will it ever be beautiful. From a perspective of evolution. Skinnier women bear healthier children and also will live longer. Thus, they are the beautiful ones. Big is not, nor will it even be beautiful. These people need to reign on their unhealthy lifestyles and slim up or die early.

I disagree. You can be beautiful and unhealthy at the same time. Someone can be unattractive (inside and/or out) and still need to lose weight to benefit their health. I think what you're saying is that people shouldn't justify an unhealthy weight. We shouldn't encourage people to believe that it's okay or healthy for them to be significantly overweight.

I am kind of neutral on this post. Fat people can be beautiful, but if calling them beautiful or "perfect", as some people here have put it, causes them to find being unhealthy no big deal, then it is wrong. They should always be aware of the danger they are putting themselves in. However, I could imagine obese people having a low self-esteem, what's wrong with giving them a boost of self esteem every now and then?

If you tell them that they're beautiful, it all depends on how they take it and not what we define it by. If they themselves know that beauty has nothing to do with body image, then I don't see the problem in telling them that.

What I was actually saying with this post, is not that fat people are 'ugly', rather that you shouldn't encourage overweight people by telling them they look good. It's like telling a smoker that they look good when they smoke.

I totally get what you meant by this post but it could have been worded a bit differently. Though that's annoying !hehe... but yeah in this you seemed to have missed out that sometimes you can beautiful irrespective of your health ...and being called beautiful as a person can actually do wonders for your inner self esteem thus lifting you up and maybe even help over come issues like self image and even bad health. Most of the time if someone feels unbeautiful from the outside they end up feeling unbeautiful from the inside.
