+316 The HIV virus has gotten so tiny that it can no longer be seen under a microscope. The pores (tiny microscopic holes that are in EVERYTHING) in condoms, CAN be seen under a microscope. So that means... Yes. HIV viruses can go through a condom. Look on the back of the package: May protect against some STI's. Wow that's comforting. Amirite?

Can I get some scientific proof of this? As far as I know, HIV has always been too small to be seen under anything other than an electron microscope.

HIV is carried in the semen, and semen is too thick of a liquid to be go through the pores of a condom - fill a condom with water and it doesn't leak does it? Despite water molecules being hundreds of times smaller than any virus. Condoms can't protect against Crabs and other STI's though.

Condoms don't protect you from genital warts and herpes, they DO protect against HIV if used properly.

HIV is one of the main STDs condoms protect against, and clearly they're pretty effective since there hasn't been a major outbreak in North America yet. Any source you go to about condoms and STDs it clearly says that they're highly effective in keeping out HIV. Like some people said, condoms don't protect someone from EVERYTHING, but HIV is one thing they do keep you safe from. Where did you get these facts anyway?

See, to all you worry nuts about about HIV and condoms. Currently there is a drug being tested that has so far been rather promising with preventing the contracting of HIV. It is a drug used to slow HIV in positive people but so far, with the testing done, it is showing real good signs of being a potential way to help further prevent spreading. Down sides is it is just under 40USD a day to take it in current condition so it isn't practical yet.
