+580 It is dumb that diamonds are so expensive and coveted when they have very few uses, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not to go into mom-mode, but, BOOKS, on the other hand .....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They'll keep you warm if you burn 'em!?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's better for water to be cheap and diamonds to be expensive than vice versa

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's called the paradox of value.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah you're right, I was trying to think of the name but it wouldn't come to me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah thats where i got this idea from.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They can cut pretty much anything and they don't get scratched or shattered.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They can get shattered. They are the hardest mineral, and in mineral terms that means scrachability, not shatterability

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, they're used in some tools for surgery. Plus, they're practically indestructible unless you have a 3500 C fire burning so they are a pretty good symbol for marriage.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yes but i can understand why they're so expensive

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they are expensive because they are rare. You can't just randomly stroll and find a diamond lying on the ground. Rocks on the other hand are cheap.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually... there's something I should tell you anon, I've been meaning to tell you, but I had to wait until you made a fool of yourself in public. http://www.neatorama.com/2008/12/01/10-facts-about-diamonds-you-should-know/ Look at numero sis (otherwise known as 6)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You obviously don't understand the simple concept of supply and demand, do you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

major factories and companies use diamond-tipped blades because they can cut through just about anything

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...I just read "diamonds" as dinosaurs. Though that works too XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's all politics. They're expensive because all the diamond mines are owned by only one or two families; they make them expensive because they can.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's because of the rarity not politics

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://www.neatorama.com/2008/12/01/10-facts-about-diamonds-you-should-know/ Number 6

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

is this the same romancingvulcans from sparknotes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I mine diamonds to make diamond pickaxes and diamond armor.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And then you can mine obsidian so you can build a portal so you can go to hell. Or make a completely explosion-proof lava moat. Or explosion-proof anything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's explosion-proof until the exploding green penises show up...
