+368 You've always thought being homeschooled would be fun. Then you meet kids that actually are and they're just creepy. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, some of my best friends are homeschooled. I think they're awesome. The fact that I was homeschooled has nothing to do with this fact at all~ But I can see the truth of your statement. Those kids are usually the result of stupid parents who forget their kids need a substitute social life. I was lucky to get some of that and I still was awkward when I went back to regular. It's a delicate process that no parent should just throw themselves into. Needless to say I don't regret it, and find that homeschooling put me far ahead of my classmates in a number of respects.

My best friends who are homeschooled because they do auditions and dance (with my sister) have no social life outside of dance. It's sad.

For some reason, I've always imagined that a lot of homeschooled kids have really strict/neurotic parents, which kinda took the fun factor away for me.

I'm home schooled, and know plenty of people that are as well. They're pretty awesome people. I've actually got a pretty good social life. Besides, who isn't creepy? A lot of people can be nowadays, not just home schooled kids.

hello

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I attend public school and I know at least a few people that have been homeschooled who have great personalities.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wrong, I'm homeschooled and know a lot of other people who are and aren't "creepy", granted some are, but there are plenty of "ceepy" people who go to school

*cough* artisticbroccoli *cough*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

who's that? o_O

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was homeschooled for 2 years and I kinda became a bit socially awkward in that time, but I stopped and went back to regular. I think I recovered fairly well, though -twitch- And I know of a few homeschool kids that are really great, but I also know a few that aren't so... well, they're just a little bit different. Nothing wrong with that :P

love the -twitch- part xD

Gahh! Kids like that give normal homeschooled kids a bad name.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You mean kids like you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I classify homeschoolers in three ways: the typical socially retarded ones, the actually normal ones, and the ones who don't actually do school or end up doing pre algebra in 11th grade

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, for me there are HOMEschoolers (the weird ones) and people who are homeschooled (normal ones)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's exactly why i don't hang out with other homeschool kids, the ones i've met were really weird.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Socially awkward" and "creepy" aren't the same thing. I personally prefer people who are less fake and affected; people who don't pretend to a different person depending on whom they're with. Social mores are overrated; I'd much rather take others for exactly who they are and be taken the same way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I go to public school and I'd say I'm as socially awkward as a homeschooled person, if not more. XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know this homeschooled girl. She's in orchestra and she is the most polite girl I know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well I'm actually homeschooled and I've attended a few homeschool social groups and my experiences were very similar in that several of the other youth lacked the social skills of other people. I'm sorry if you are offended by this post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I switched out of homeschooling in 4th grade for a good reason. You learn no social skills and spend WAY too much time with your parents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have a lot of friends who used to be home schooled. Most of them do/did things outside of school though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Socially awkward homeschooled kids are the result of bad parenting, not homeschooling. I've been homeschooled from the 7th grade up and I'm not social awkward. I actually have more friends than those my age who go to school have, because my friends are not limited to those I met in school. I know some kids who are homeschool and have no social skills, but even before they were homeschooled (they went to school before), they were really awkward and acted like they couldn't have a straight convo. But then again, it's all about how the parents raise you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey, not cool. I was home schooled all my life until this year (freshman in high school) and everybody is surprised when I tell them. Nobody thinks I'm creepy. And there are many creepy people, home schooled or public schooled. It's not just us home schoolers, who are just as awesome as public schoolers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Social skills have nothing to do with homeschooling. There are plenty of socially challenged kids who go to public school and plenty of well-adjusted homeschoolers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The socially awkward homeschoolers are the ones that sit at home all day. That's how they get that way. I've been homeschooled for 8 years. I am very involved in a homeschool group, theatre, dance, my Hebrew school, etc. I am not "creepy" at all, thank you very much. I know socially awkward public school kids, and totally outgoing awesome homeschooled kids. God I hate this stereotype.
