+1,105 We HP fans have been with him through all of the books. You can't call yourself a real fan if you've only seen the movies. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How are the votes even close? The movies aren't even real Harry Potter, they're a completely different story than the books. I stopped watching them after the fourth movie because they're so bad compared to the books.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, they didn't say they were a fan of the books, now did they? Maybe they like the idea of Harry Potter, the characters, and the stories. "Fan" simply means a liker of something, and he does not need to know about it to like it. Scientists don't rave about how THEY're the real fans of the sun because they studied all of it, not just one chapter in school like all of us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The movies aren't even Harry Potter anymore. They are just people trying to make money off of a popular book series.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they weren't Harry Potter, why would they be titled so? I know they aren't good, and I agree. I'm just saying that being a fan is just liking, no matter how committed. Not being as committed as you are does not make them less real of a fan, maybe LESS OF A FAN, but not a fake fan. If they were acting like they like Harry Potter but they really found it ridiculous, THEN they wouldn't be real fans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I totally understand what you're saying. But Harry Potter was a book before it was a movie. If you a real Harry Potter fan then you would realize that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(silverdoe65):ono If you understood what I'm saying you would've not just used the phrase "real HP fan" incorrectly again. Real = actual, not fake; fan = liker. You do not need to have special qualifications to be a REAL fan, you just need to not pretend to like something, and really like it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What I was trying to say was, You can't consider yourself a fan of something if you don't even know what half of it is about.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, the only thing you need to do to be a fan is like the idea. I like magnets - I'm a fan of magnets. Do I know how the hell they work and how they're made? - No idea. To be an OBSESSED fan, however, you need to know every single detail of the work, every possible angle of the work, every possible detail of the author's life and so on. To be a fan, all you need to do is like.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A fan doesn't mean you like something. I can say I like pencils, but I'm not a fan of them. Fan: an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fan If you just watch the movies you really aren't a enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of Harry Potter. That is all I have to say on this subject. I'm sticking to my belief and I don't care if you think it's false.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well in that case, I guess you're right. But for all you know, they could've been calling themselves an enthusiastic devotee of the movie series Harry Potter.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was just a stupid post and I'm tired of hearing about self-righteous harry potter fans. It's just a book, and this site wasn't made to obsess over it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my gosh, that bugs me so much. There's this girl I know and she is always talking about Harry Potter, and I found out today that she hasn't even read the books. Made me a bit angry, because I am in the middle of reading the books and she still acts like she knows more about it than me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it BOTHERS me to no end when people say they just watch the movies because they hate to read. THE REAL MAGIC IS IN THE BOOKS.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's so much more emotion in the books than there is in the movies. I hate when people act like Harry Potter is a huge part of their life when they haven't even bothered to pick up Philosopher's Stone.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I pretty much agree, but I think it's funny how you said "real magic."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I very much agree, they wouldn't even know the real story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The books are great, the movies are mediocre and don't stick to the story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You have no idea how many people I've met who have said the same thing after Harry Potter movie marathons on the TV.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your sentimentality in books is too conservative and sentimental for my tastes. Get with the times, and stop judging people by what they'd rather watch than read, and what they'd rather read than watch. That's just so... Prejudice. Ignorantly prejudice. Bitch, why the fuck do you care if I like Harry Potter but--HEAVEN FORBID--don't read the books?... Well, besides the 6th book.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I totally agree. The movies leave out way too many details ;___; I've read all seven books at least twice. It bugs me when someone acts like they're a huge HP fan when they haven't even read any of the books. Anyway, I'm so excited for the first part of the seventh movie!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i thought you were talking about the computer... lol i was like "wtf hp sells books? on what!?"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i though it was about the computer until they said books so i said ohh harry potter

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my fucking gosh, it doesnt matter if theyre "real" Harry Potter fans or not. What the hell does it matter? Liking Harry Potter doesnt make you any cooler, it just makes you lame when you care so much about what other people think about it. Shut the fuck up & get over yourselves already.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I couldn't agree more

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Let's put it this way: Think of something you really love. Think of how great it is to you, and how great it is to other people like you. Now think of people who only kinda sorta know about what you love, but claim to love it as much as you do. That person is just being a poser, and that's super annoying to you. And it's super annoying to us too (annoying wannabe fans, that is.) That's why it matters. ^.^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's this guy at my school who insists that he's read the books a million times and "memorized" them, but then asked me who Dobby and Dudley were.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He fails. Hard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

can we stop with the damn harry potter posts? go to mlia if you feel the need to post about how much harry potter rules and how much twilight sucks. i mean honestly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter is a very popular series so you're gonna have to get over not wanting to see it, and they didn't mention twilight at all

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm just saying, in general. if these posts keep up, this site is the next mlia, which isn't cool. and you know, some people don't like to read. so just because they haven't read the books doesn't mean they don't like it as much as those who have.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the pokemon ones annoy me more, but yeah hopefully that doesn't happen And my peeve with people not reading them is only if they do some crazy shit like read some then watch the others or do them out of order, to get the whole story I think you should either watch them all in order or read them all in order

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've read all the books exactly 7 times, yes I know I'm a dork but I loooooove them. They are a symbol of my childhood and I don't care what anyone says. 9 more days!!!!! :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

8 more days!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't care if they claim to be a Harry Potter fan, but if they claim to be actual fans they need to read the books or they will be missing out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My friend's going to the midnight premire of DH, and when I found out she's never read the books, I was annoyed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When I watch the movies, I have pretty low expectations, so it doesn't bother me that much. I think that the books are just simplified versions of the books, so naturally they aren't nearly as enjoyable. If you only watched the movies and really liked them then yeah, you should try to read the books, but if not, you can still be a fan of the movies.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So they're not allowed to like the movies because they haven't read the books? I'm pretty sure they can like whatever they want, and if they don't feel like reading the books because they like the movies then what's wrong with that? Posts like these annoy me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A good portion of Harry Potter is about love and acceptance of all people and their similarities and differences. Why can't the fans (and yes, that includes /all/ of them, whether they watch the movies or read the books or both) ever seem to follow that example?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My friend Borrowed my 7th book to read but said she didn't understand it much cause she's forgotten the 6th so I asked her how long ago was the last time she read it and she said she hadn't read the 5th or 6th just watched the movies. WTF?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the thing that differentiates this from things that annoy me is that books or movie, it is ALL the same thing. Harry Potter is Harry Potter, no matter what form. A fan of the movies is still a Harry Potter fan, just not a Harry Potter novel fan. & If you really expect those giant books to fit every single detail into a movie... Open your eyes & realise that is virtually impossible, & it is a directors job to appeal to a wider crowd than the few portion of nerd-Os that actually read the books. Besides, if every detail of the books really were put into the movie, it would ruin the entire essence & point of the book. You are SUPPOSED to use your imagination, & a movie is just an interpretation. Harry Potter posts are more annoying than poser/bandwagon fans. By far.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

omg who cares!?!?! Harry potter sucks and so does twilight! Its not real! SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY! I SPIT ON HARRY POTTER

by Anonymous 13 years ago

looks lie we got a drama queen here

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sure you can be a fan of Harry Potter without reading the books. The Hp books just dont interest me, it takes too long to get into etc. I do enjoy the movies even if i dont understand half the crap thats happening. I enjoy watching technology progress over movies. Fun stuff :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, compared to how much i hate twilight, i might as well be a harry potter fanatic

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha you're really stupid. you can be a real fan of hp and not read the books

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I dont call myself a fan either way. smirk

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't be a real fan if you don't read the books because if you were a real fan of any book-to-movie conversions, you would want to experience both because you love it. If you don't like something enough to read a fricken book, than you aren't really a fan. That's like being a fan of a singer but not wanting to see one of their concerts.
