+214 There are protests going on about medical experiments in which they must use one of a woman's egg cells for tests. What's next, are we going to illegalize menstruation? amirite?

What is their reason for protest?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Apparently some super-mega-religious people are against menstruation. Looked it up after reading Carrie, and her mothers reaction. Like, just like they believe you shouldn't masturbate because it's wasting sperm, which they think are life, every female egg they consider a life, so every time a woman ovulates without it being fertilised, it's murder.

Oh my gosh. That actually scares me to think that people believe that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What, so they just want women to be baby factories for their whole life?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If masturbation is murder, call me Hitler ;) Haha that was unnecessary.

masturbation is a sin not because you are wasting sperm, but because sexual pleasure is ment to be combined with a person you love and the intent of children. Also the reason people may have a problem with that study is because an egg is precious to life, and shouldnt have it's tissues torn apart for research

dude we eat chicken eggs all the time. those are precious to chicken life, but we still eat them. it's the same thing.

unfertilized eggs do not have tissue....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you fail at anatomy

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Umm. No. Actually, you fail. Tissue is a collection of cell. An egg is just one cell. Fetuses have tissue, eggs do not.

_*collection of cells

I know what tissues are, i was semi responding to another persons comment so i apologize . Anyway fetuses do have tissue, but before they are a fetus they are a zygote which contains stem cells that become tissues for certain organs-which once obtained the zygote becomes a fetus at about 8 weeks after conception . I have taken 5+ anatomy courses, I have seen dissected cadavers, I have seen plenty of tissue ha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha. Oh well, then we both pass at anatomy. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Also, it may be different if the medical researchers can going to fertilise the egg in question. Then it boils down to the "Does life begin at conception" debate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But wouldn't that be obvious? An unfertilized egg is simply potential.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can only see them fertilizing eggs for stem cells, which could bring great benefit to humans so I dont mind. An egg fertilized in a petri dish wont survive unless its put into a woman anyway.

I was going to jokingly say "and after menstruation becomes illegal, masturbation will be a crime." Then I read the above comment... That is just crazy. Some people can be way too extreme. Whether it be about religion, saving the planet, animal rights... These are all good things but there is no need to take it to the extent that some people do. Let's just all chill out a bit, Mmmkay?

Are they protesting FERTILIZED eggs? This post is too vague...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know about what the tests are consisting of or what they are for. I just know that eggs are being tested and there are protests against it. You could look into it, I just heard the background info from a teacher

how would you stop it? shove a cork up it o.O
