+189 I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian, amirite?

People are vegetarians because of the cruelty that occurs in slaughterhouses. Because we are at the top of the food chain, that doesn't mean we have the right to be so inhumanely cruel to animals in slaughterhouses.

People are just oversensitive, it's not like your wiping out a whole species.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Actually, people go about things the wrong way. There is a slight difference.

Care to explain?

No problemo. I was going to in the first place, but since you show intrest. Animals are AWESOME. And unlike what people may think they CAN develop feelings. And so, in a way 'slaughter houses' can be a good idea, to keep animals away from human interaction, so that the whole 'killing' part isn't as bad. But GOSH, animals aren't just animals. Human interaction or none, they do have feelings. Dogs for example can be as smart as two year olds. Would you kick a two year old (Don't answer that. :P) So, treat them well in this life and be thankful for the sacrifice they made to get to your plate.

Sure, animals have feelings, but I still don't think you should resort to being a vegetarian and not eating meat. And, yes, I know that some vegetarians still eat meat but only certain kinds. This is more of a matter of opinion than anything else, however.

I suppose. For instance, leather and fur is disgusting, unless the animal was already dead, or used for food anyway. :/ It's a really complex and sensitive issue.

Yea I guess.

1. People who eat certain kinds of meat or fish are not vegetarians, even if they call themselves that. 2. Sure, animals have feelings, but... what? You can't just state your opinion, period. It would be nice if you gave us some reasons. 3. Is the matter of life and death, torture and slavery really just a matter of opinion?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

1. "[Vegetarian] generally implies someone who has less dietary restrictions than a vegan." http://www.vegetarianvegan.com/Vegan_Vs_Vegetarian.html 2. Rather than give you reasons for why you should eat meat, why don't you just give me a reason, not an opinion, as to why I shouldn't 3. Yes, just as history shows, those are all a matter of "philosophical inquiry," if you will. Not everything can be labeled an opinion; that's too general.

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian "less dietary restriction than a vegan" includes omnivores as well. 2. See below.

really, you didn't even 'fight' your way to the top. you were born there.

Our sense of what is right and wrong is what makes us human. We fought our way to the top of the food chain, that's right. And because of that, it is our duty to take responsibility for our actions and use our sense of morals: Being slaughtered is worse than eating tofu instead of chicken. Thus, we shouldn't slaughter animals for the sole purpose of enjoying a hot dog. Also, meat production consumes tons of energy and resources. Think of all the food that it takes - if we used the land that we need for meat production to feed humans instead of millions of animals, there would be no more hunger. "Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." - Albert Einstein Vegetarianism takes some sacrifices, but on the long run, it is the best diet in terms of health, ethics, and ecology.
