+376 In math, no matter how long the decimal is, it's better than a fraction. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is how I felt too, until algebra when calculators were allowed for everything and I realized that fractions are about a thousand times easier to work with than decimals.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

until geometry or trig where you no longer have a calculator that works with fractions because graphing calculators don't do that they just divide the number in () and don't treat it as a fraction so why should you

I used to hate fractions. Now I kiss the ground they walk on.

(JennaGee):i admit that in some cases fractions are easier but in general if the decimal is under.... lets say 4 digits its easier

What is greater, 0.78 or 0.64? What is greater, 9/13 or 51/73?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i don't quite see how this is a reply to what i said but i think you're backing me up so thanks?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You don't see it as a reply to your comment because it isn't, in any way. If you didn't get a notification, it's not for you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sorry i got a notification and didn't look at what it was for and i assumed it was that one my bad

My math teacher would be slowly torturing you until you died right now lmao xD He gets SOOOOO pissed when someone says a decimal is easier than a fraction and will retaliate in frightening ways.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same with my Algebra 2 teacher, he was the one that made me start using fractions (all the damn time), now that I got used to them, I find them easier than decimals.

Decimals>Fractions. End of discussion.

We have three people, and the pie weighs 1 kilo, how much should each person get of pie for the all three pieces to be EXACT and no pie to be left? Don't use fractions, though, since you hate them so.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Each person gets 33.33% of the pie.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's only 99.99% of the pie, what about the .01%? Isn't it easier just to say 1/3 of the pie for each person?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats stupid you said his answer couldnt be in a fraction. trick question

by Anonymous 11 years ago

the only reason fractions are better is when they ask for an "exact" answer. other than that decimals are better in my opinion

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It seems so...elementary school to use fractions

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nahh. I've never really been bothered by fractions. they're loads easier than decimals, imo. c:

I use which one is easier. Fractions of huge numbers are annoying, but consider this: [(Pi/e)(2/5^4)/[csc(Pi/3)]](125e x square root 2)(5/Pi)[cot(5Pi/4)][sec(11Pi/6)] and then square all of that. With fractions, it's easy to cancel things out sometimes. You can convert all of those to decimals and then evaluate them. However, I know fairly quickly that the entire thing equals 8 (assuming you're in radians, and I'm pretty sure I did the math correctly, but the point is a ton of stuff ends up cancelling). Are decimals sometimes more convenient than fractions? Yes. Will you ever have to do something like this in a practical situation? Probably not. Are fractions extremely helpful sometimes? Yes.

1/3. That is all.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, whenever I get a really long, messed up decimal, it usually means I fucked up the problem.
