+644 I never understood why there are so many commercials with people getting cars for Christmas. Who the hell gets a new car for Christmas? And how is it always a surprise? It's not easy hiding a $20,000 loan, amirite?

People do not usually pay for cars via loans.

Actually, my dad gave my mom a car for Christmas, and nobody knew he was. But, that is probably out of the norm, as whoever can spend 20,000 dollars each year on a car must be pretty well off.

Actually Christmas time (the end of the year) is one of the best times to buy a car of that year model. All the dealerships want to get rid of this year's model so they can sell next year's, so car's are cheaper than usual. It make sense to me. And like the above comment says, most people don't use loans to pay for cars. They pay in installments for like 2-3 years without interest.
