-50 atheists shouldn't celebrate easter and christmas, amirite?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

When Atheists celebrate Christmas, it's because of Santa, not got, and they celebrate Easter because of the Easter bunny. Don't be dumb. Same holiday, two meanings.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Um...I meant God, not got. Haha.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

but santa and the easter bunny are for little kids so why would adults still celebrate them. there is a reason u spell christmas with christ. dont tell me im dumb u have your ideas and i have mine.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Right. It's called "Christ Mas." Too bad it's stolen from the Pagans. Guess where the Christmas tree came from? I celebrate Christmas as a time for family and sharing, not as a time to celebrate Jesus or God (neither of whom I believe in). So yeah, Atheist can celebrate whatever holiday they want. Most holiday dates were stolen as a means of destroying another religion. That's just SOO Christian...

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It's not technically stolen from the Pagans. Christmas used to be celebrated in April, which was closer to the time of Jesus's birth. When Rome wanted everyone to stop being Pagans and convert to Christianity, Christmas was moved to the same time as a Pagan holiday so they would be more inclined to convert. The only "stolen" part was the time of year.

it is a cultural holiday not a religious one anymore.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

dont worry, let them celebrate it :) let them experience some good ol christian love. plus they won't experience it's full meaning, its like eating for the sake of the flavour not the nutirents. it's for taste not norishment. they'll see eventually...keep praying for them

You act like Athiests are evil and have no soul. I'm athiest, and my family celebrates both of these holidays because it's a family thing. We have families that we love too, we aren't heartless.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

If you have a soul, how is there NOT a god? Or at least a "supreme being"?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I entirely agree My dad andI are athiest. Although My dad's grlfriend is christian and i don't think my little brother should miss out on holidays like that just because his dad and sister are athiest. Christmas isn't even about reigion anymore. Imean ow many of you actually think of Christ on Christmas. All you are thining is the presents. And as for easter what the hell does a bunny with chocolate-filled eggs have to do with God or Jesus ayway???

by Anonymous 14 years ago

its not that people think youre heartless, its the fact they are christian holidays, they wouldnt exist without the belief God exists. its kindof hippocritical to celebrate something you dont believe in....

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Um, Christians stole the holidays from pagans and reworked them to fit their religion. Nice try buddy...

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Uhm, these holidays existed LONG before Christianity. So yes, they WOULD exist without the belief of the Christian God. Ditto on the "nice try buddy."

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I didn't literally mean a soul, in that sense at least, but I'm just saying that a lot of Christians I've run into that think like that, think I'm some kind of heartless bitch for not believing in god. It's really the cultural aspect of the holiday that's really hard to get away from. And if it's hypocritical, so be it, but I celebrate the holidays to see family that I almost never get to see.

(DestructiveMuffin) it's God not god. You moron!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Wow, you're trying to correct someone's grammar when you didn't even start off your own sentence with a capital. You mean "It's," not "it's." And while I'm at it, nice job on not using a comma. Allow me to edit what you've said: "It's 'God,' not 'god,' you moron!"

(DestructiveMuffin) it's God not god. You moron!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

It's none of your buisness what I believe or celebrate. Keep your opinions to yourself.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Oh my gosh. Get off your effing Christian high horse. Atheists can experience love too. Bastards.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I love you haha

by Anonymous 14 years ago

/rage.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

still though, you dont see everyone going to celebrate Jewish holidays so you?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

exactly!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

people only do it for money. they don't give a crap about 'going to church' or 'worship and faith' they're just greedy.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

true, but jews are a minority, whereas christians are a majority, so it has becaome a larger part of mainstream culture. also, as an athiest, i say let me celebrate any holiday i want. how does it effect religious believers if i do or do not partake in cultural traditions about love and family?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Christmas was oroginally a pagan holiday, Christians stole it and convinced others it was theirs. hmm lets see what gods were born on Dec. 25. The persian god Mithra(who was also born of a virgin, witnessed by sheperds, was thought of as the son of God/good sheperd,he could raise the dead, cure the blind and cast out devils.he was also sacrificed on easter(spring equinox) and celebrated a dinner beforehand with 12 disciples that represented the 12 zodiac signs.-sound familiar?),Osiris, Horus, Marduk, Sol, Saturn and Apollo were also born on december 25

originally*

by Anonymous 14 years ago

yah cuz Jesus was born in the summer i think?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I still celebrate Easter as the Spring Equinox.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Both Christmas and Easter have both become very commercialized holidays. There are those who are religious and celebrate them for the religious reasons, but even those people often celebrate them for the gift-giving and family time too.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Everyone gets Christmas and Easter break, so what would you like us to do, sit at home all day (because nothing is open) while everyone else is with family and getting presents? No thanks. It's not like we have very many of our own holidays to celebrate, since we have no religion.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I am neither Christian nor Atheist, and the following is merely an opinion. The secularization of Christian holidays is an insult to Christianity, and for atheists to celebrate them signifies that they are ignorant of the holiday's meanings. Picking a religion apart selecting the nice bits shows a lack of conviction and an inability to take the good with bad. Saying that it is appropriate for Atheists to celebrate Christmas is the equivalent of saying that it is appropriate for Christians to celebrate Ramadan. It seems insulting that for a person to say "I reject what this holiday is about on principle, but I like presents so I will celebrate it anyway." I apologize for the rant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My family is Atheist, and we celebrate these holidays, just not religiously. We celebrate the concepts they have come to have, like family, giving, and just being together. Is there something wrong with this?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It would make us look like douchebags in a way... like, I am an atheist, and if I sneezed and someone said "Bless you!" I wouldn't say "NO, I'M AN ATHEIST DUMBASS." I would just accept the "custom" and move on with my life. In the same way, if someone gave me a present on Christmas, I wouldn't say "NO. I'M AN ATHEIST." Because it'd just make me a douchebag, you know?
