+260 Anyone should be allowed to enjoy Christmas because nowadays it's more of a celebration of family, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't agree with that last part.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its more of a time to get whatever you want :)

Thank you.

I'm atheist, but I just had a great time setting up the Christmas tree with my family :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm Jewish and I still celebrate Christmas with my family.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i feel like they still need to understand the holiday tho. they should know WHAT they are celebrating

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I celebrate Christmas as more of a holiday in remembrance of a guy who existed and was great, just not the son of a deity. He taught many things that are still relevant today and he has my respect. It would be wrong of me not to celebrate his birthday in some way, so I might as well celebrate with everyone else.

Yeah! There are different versions of Christmas. The one with Santa Claus, and the one with Jesus. When an athiest say they don't believe in Christmas just because of something they believe is a myth, I don't get it. They can still celebrate Christmas regardless of what their religious views are.

Hi, I'm an atheist, and rather than just saying I don't believe "just cuz" I shall elaborate. I don't believe in in any religion because of all the greed, conflict, and all the false hope it brings about, and also due to the lack of scientific evidence. Also, Christmas has become more about family time and gifts rather than celebrating the birth of a guy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

On the ' just because' part, I was only talking about Christmas. Just wanted to clear that up. Im a Christian. But there are tons of things in the bible that I disagree with. Times and people have changed since then. All I'm trying to say, Christmas is different for everyone, and no one should be left out of it just because of something they don't or do believe in.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think people know what they're celebrating. People know Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. It's pretty much impossible not to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

or a celebration of consumerism hmm

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Celebration of family? Pshh. More like "HOLY CRAP, IT'S GET FREE SHIT DAY"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not if you have to buy stuff for other family members... I usually come out even on price.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

birth of Jesus Christ..which is why it's called CHRISTmas..meaning "more Christ" lets go people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Jesus was born in Spring Christmas is a Pagan holiday

by Anonymous 12 years ago

christmas is not a pagan holiday you just keep telling yourself that. by the way, the calenders and dates have changed since 2000 years ago.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Correct Christmas is not pagan, however Yule is and came first. Saturnalia is another name for it. It's the rebirth of the sun god Saturn. Christians came and put their holiday over the top of it to get them to convert.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I heard He was born in September, but that's beside your (accurate) point.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Its so hypocritical that the same people who can't ignore the words "under God" in the pledge can completely ignore what Christmas stands for. And yes I know its pagan. I'm not a fucking idiot. It was adopted by Christians and is to celebrate the birth of Christ. And again. I'm not an idiot. Jesus waasnt born in December.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most people who aren't Christian don't care that "under God" is in the pledge. We just say it the way it was originally written: without the whole "under God" part. I'm glad to hear that you're not an idiot though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That was directed at someone specific. I just didn't feel like pressing reply. They did comment on this. And on the under God post they said that was an attempt to convert them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This really bothers me. You can call Christmas a family holiday, but it's a religious holiday first. I personally, find it disrespectful that the meaning is becoming warped. If you do not believe in the religious aspects of Christmas, pick a different day to have your "Family Holiday". That's like a Christian celebrating Hannakuh and saying they are doing so to have the family time. I can't stress disrespectful enough. Tho and that 'guy', he does for you. Show some respect an use 'Jesus'.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I know Christians that do celebrate Hannukah.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

the world totally twisted and perverted Christmas. A day that was meant to celibate the birth of Christ turned into "let me make a list of what i want". Family time is good, but the holiday should be for Christ.

amen sistuh

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No more presents for you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, in my family we never ask for any. My parents of course still get us something, but i've never had anything major. Again, they taught me the holiday was not about that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't know which button to click...I agree that everyone should enjoy the holiday, there's nothing wrong with that. However I don't think it's a "family holiday" per se,it's still a religious holiday, and people should respect that. I know a lot of my friends (who are atheists) think that the entire holiday is just about consumerism. One of them even told me I was wrong about Jesus's birth, and that it's not why we celebrate Christmas. I find it absurd that a religious holiday, is being turned into this. How would people feel if we celebrated their holidays and turned them into a "family holiday"? Sorry for ranting! ^^

by Anonymous 12 years ago

who says theyre not allowed to celebrate christmas? they are!!!!! plenty of athiests and agnostics (including my family) celebrate it

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Christmas is the celebration of the birth if Christ. Go ahead and celebrate Christmas if you're not Christian; it's a fun holiday to give/get gifts and become closer to the ones you love. But, I disagree with saying "it's more about family nowadays." Just because people of other religions celebrate a joyful and exciting holiday doesn't mean it should change the meaning it had originally. Again, there's nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas if you're not Christian. Just those who ARE Christian should keep in mind why they are celebrating it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I believe Christmas should be whatever you want it to be! Everyone is different, and has completely opposite opinions! So who cares if the next person believes its a family holiday or a religious one? It doesn't affect me in any way. So imma do what I do, and you do what you do.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Personally, I'm atheist, so I just have fun that day with my family. Some of my family believes in God so they celebrate for different reasons than me and who cares. As long as we all enjoy our day, let people celebrate for whatever reason they want.
