Yes! I always press it and it doesn't close for like another 20 seconds

It doesn't. Those are just there to make you feel better. The door will close eventually.

It doesn't work on modern elevators, I forget the year they stopped implementing them I believe in the 70s was when. So any elevator made before 1970 the close door button works, and after that it doesnt
