+1,158 These overprotective parents who are trying to get classic books like "Huckleberry Fin" and the Harry Potter series banned need to calm the fuck down. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I literally just finished writing a thesis paper on why Huck Finn shouldn't be banned in public schools! But it is totally ridiculous. There was a girl at school that was always talking about how she couldn't read Harry Potter because it was against her religion..? Didn't really understand that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because everyone who reads Harry Potter books automatically starts practicing witchcraft and worshipping Satan, duh! I can't stand people who protest Harry Potter on the grounds of there being "witchcraft." The majority of people can differentiate between reality and fiction.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh of course! Because a book about a wizard makes us all devil worshipers! Hahah. It just bothers me that people will ban a simple book of FICTION because they think it's bad...

I knew a couple at my old church who would let their kids read Lord of the Rings and not Harry Potter because "The Lord of the Rings shows witchcraft in a negative way, and not positive like Harry Potter." Obviously, these people have never heard of Gandalf.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, when I was younger my mom wouldn't allow me to read Harry Potter because of the witchcraft thing, but when I got older she stopped caring, so I read them. If these religious people actually read the book they would see that it's a well written series that focuses on friendship and good overcoming evil rather than... satanic stuff?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know someone who thought Harry Potter was "Devil worshipping" and when I said it's not he actually asked me "but doesn't it have a list of spells and how to do them in the back?"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wish there was a list of spells in the back. I can never seem to remember them, well except EXPECTRO PATRONUM. But I don't except a Patronus to shoot out of my fingers when I say it...

sometimes i swear these people are looking for things to be upset about. my friend's aunt thinks they're evil because the three stars in the corner of the american versions have 6 pts each. 6...6...6. number of the devil. i have read the books dozens of times and never noticed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Three stars in the corner of the american version?? Which book?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in all of them, it's kinda blurry but here http://ctrlv.in/18747

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OH JESUS IT'S THE DEVIL.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And there are seven books! 7 - 1=6 6 x 111=666 SATAN!!!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So do the people trying to ban violent video games

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know! If they ban everything with a little bit of violence, then all that's left is stupid little kid games and there's nothing worth playing. They're trying to say what kids should and shouldn't be allowed to play, which really should be the parents' decision.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This just goes to show how weak society has became

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its bcuz schools no kids will think their school sucks compared 2 hogwarts! Their just jealous!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Riiight... I'm gonna let the spelling slide because you're on a phone but that's not even close to reality. They think that it's bad for kids because it mentions witchcraft and don't even know what the series is really promoting, and it's also a little bit violent sometimes so they freak about that.

I was joking grammar nazi...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sarcasm does not work over the internet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

huckleberry finn is soooo boring and u dont even get wats goin on until like half way thru the book its sooo random

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Huck Finn is one of the easiest books to read.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

your poor grammar invalidates your argument. how do you not understand what's going on in the book until halfway through? it's a clearly explained linear plot. i won't be taking any book recommendations from you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well idk.. but i love the hunger games.. im on the last book. i heard prim dies... stupid friend and her spoiler alert

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You just...you... (You're lucky I've already finished that series, cause you just kinda killed Mockingjay. Just saying.)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

huck fin is the only book assigned in high school that i actually finished. i loved it!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We must shelter our children from Nigger Jim! What could possibly be worse than reading the word "Nigger?!" Especially when at the age you read the book, every other person in the halls says it? This is an outrage.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my gosh, there was actually a parent who said that in seventh grade. She also tried to get milk banned from the cafeteria because her son is lactose intolerant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I LOVE how those books are being banned, but legitimately gruesome ones like "The Painted Bird" are still allowed. HOLY CRAP! You mean, Harry Potter has WITCHCRAFT in it?! BANBANBAN. Rape? Bestiality? Incest? Mass murder? Pro-Soviets for violence? NBD. But WITCHCRAFT? It must burn.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i wouldn't call Harry Potter a 'classic'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OP wasn't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Book banning is the worst of all censorship

by Anonymous 13 years ago

listen, so many kids grew up with all these things and we turned out fine. parents like these are turning the future kids into little pussies who need to whine and complain about everything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Our generation seems to be the Harry Potter generation, they can not ban it! Some lady tried to get a book banned at my school because the parents were divorced. The teacher was like, "Uh, your kid is probally friends with kids who have divorced parents.." The parent said, "My child doesn't become friends with people like that" or something along those line. That is really sad. I mean, calm down for christ sake. I have divorced parents and I fail to see your point. Gah, some parents these days are way too protective.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

stories like this make me want to bang my head against a wall. kind of off topic, but i heard some schools in the east coast were banning TAG because the kids might fall down and hurt themselves. if i ever turn into that kind of parent, i hope someone slaps me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why don't they stop trying to ban Harry Potter and instead ban Twilight for being a literary piece of garbage? I would be so happy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When we read Catcher in the Rye last year in AP English, one girl took her pen to the book and marked out EVER LAST curse word. She said it was against her religion to read curse words. And that she made the book better that way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh, so they ban Harry Potter because there's some witchcraft and some violence, and a little snogging, but why not ban Twilight, have they read breaking dawn?!?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because it's not like kids EVER say ANYTHING inappropriate
