No one caught on that if a show ran all year long, it'd be 52 episodes? Veeeery interesting.

Nope. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Also, the off time, be they in between seasons or just between a two week break, allows for some great discussion and reflection upon past episodes and predictions and hope for future episodes. A great deal of the fun in ANYTHING enjoyable is the anticipation. Take that away, and not only are we out that fun, but the show WILL become overexposed to all but the most hardcore of fans, lose ratings and be cancelled.
