If aliens are so smart, then why don’t they start making their spaceships look like airplanes? That way we’d just point to the sky and say “Look, an airplane, how commonplace and not at all suspect…”, amirite?

If an alien race had the technology to travel all the way to our planet, then it's likely that they have weapons that could make us extinct in a couple of hours. They probably wouldn't need to camoflauge themselves because they could effotlessly destroy us.
