+44 You wonder how we get the crescent moons on our thumbnails, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's the nail that isn't attached to our skin anymore. I can imagine the that it's white either because it's old now or that it's white because that's the actual color it is and our nails are only usually pink because that's the color of the skin underneath our nails.

If that's what you meant, otherwise I have no idea what you are talking about.

The white that comes at the base of the nail on the thumbnails, shaped like a rising sun or something

ahh k, so a cuticle?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Is that what that is? Ok

@886817 (Smitty): No it's not a cuticle, cuz I know what he's talking about and they are 2 different things. The crescent moon thing is underneath the nail at the bottom and it is whitish. A cuticle is skin that grows above the nail.

He's talking about the white underneath our nails at the bottom by the skin.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OH that makes MUCH more sense. I was like wtf?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The white at the bottom is newly grown nail.

For those who are wondering, it's called a lunula.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Are you talking about the white spots underneath the nail? It's for lack of calcium!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The half moon (lunula) is made up of keratin cells that haven't hardened yet. It connects your nail to the matrix, which is the root of your nail, where the keratin cells harden to create your actual nail.

Until I read the comments I thought this was talking about thumbnails on computers.

Same here, OP should have put a space.
