+36 I am so sick of people celebrating Christmas and then say that they have no religion. Christmas is a religious holiday. If you feel the need to receive gifts on Christmas then you need to respect the religious veiws of it. You wouldn't celebrate Hannaukah and say you weren't Jewish... amirite?

For literally the twelfth time on this site... Christmas is no longer defined as strictly a "religious holiday." Over time, society has transformed Christmas into a universal holiday centered around generosity and family. The majority of people who celebrate the holiday do not actively observe Christianity. It is perfectly acceptable for people to celebrate the religious side of Christmas. It is also perfectly acceptable for people to celebrate the non-religious side of Christmas. Does the fact that atheists spend time with their families and exchange gifts affect you? No. The reason most atheists celebrate Christmas is because they were raised Christian and traditionally celebrated the holiday.

I completely agree. DanielJames is very correct.

Christmas is such a big holiday that some people without religion celebrate it too. It might seem kinda odd, but is it really that big a deal ? Is it honestly effecting you at all? Just let people celebrate if they please.

I am agnostic and I still celebrate christmas. ONLY because everyone else in my family is Christian. & the fact that Christmas is the only time I'll actually get to see my family. I don't ever ask for presents, even as a kid I didn't care to much for them.

I celebrate t with my family because ts tradition. No one would celebrate hannukah or kwanzaa because they are ethnic religious holidays with the history of the Jews and blacks infused in the holidays. Christmas is nothing like that. It doesn't affect you so leave it alone.

Well, Christmas was originally a pagan holiday, the only reason we have it is because the catholic church wanted to convert the pagans that lived in Germany and Russia. The pagans already had a holiday where you danced around a fir tree, so the church said, Hey you can still have this holiday, just do it for Jesus now! The a actual birth of Christ is estimated to have been somewhere around Easter, not in December So in your logic, u shouldn't be celebrating christmas either.

By the way, I'm a catholic and I celebrate Christmas, but is it really such a big deal if a non religious person celebrates Christmas?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I celebrate Christmas, and you could say I'm a Unitarian Universalist, but I don't really feel the need to have a religion. I was raised Episcapalian (or however that's spelled) until 2nd grade. Then I had no idea WHAT I was, so I went to a UU fellowship day camp in 5th grade to see how it was, and I still go there. I've never changed the holidays I celebrated, they're by tradition, not religion.

I'm atheist and I celebrate Christmas. The thing is, Christmas has been so commercialized that's it's more of a cultural thing now than a religious holiday. Most Christians don't even celebrate it for jesus anymore. I'm not trying to take Jesus out of Christmas. if you celebrate Jesus for christmas, Great, just don't tell others they can't celebrate it.

Christians took a holiday and turned it into their own. Non religious people took a holiday and turned it into their own. Celebrate how you want to, don't get your panties in a knot because someones doing something different.

Or the religious people can celebrate Christmas for it's religious meaning, and the non-religious people can celebrate it as a time for joy and exchanging gifts. It's as simple as that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with the comments above.I mean I'm an atheist and to be quite honest Christmas has really lost its meaning and only really devoted Christians celebrate it as Jesus's birthday.I'm not saying that's bad because everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it's really stupid to say that atheist/agnostics shouldn't celebrate it.It's a tradition after all.

Christmas, where we celebrate Jesus' birthday even though he was born in the spring.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Atheists are going to hell anyways, so you can laugh at them then. :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hey, if the banks are closed, it's a holiday to me.

1. Why are you so threatened by people different than you? 2. Christmas was originally a Pagan holiday. 3. It's been commercialized. 4. Many people just celebrate to see family and have an excuse to get out of school/work. 5. I do celebrate Hanukah for one night because my friend is Jewish. Overall: anyone can celebrate anything they want; you don't have any influence on anyone's decisions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

FUCK YOU I'D CELEBRATE EVERY HOLIDAY IF I COULD.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize me celebrating Christmas was ruining your life so much. Allow me to get rid of the opportunity to see my family and be grateful for them. I'll get right on that
